SUMMARY

Salary is commensurate with education and experience

The primary work of this position is providing instruction for students in assigned classes in specific disciplines. In addition, instructors maintain contact with agriculture industry personnel to ensure that educational programming meets industry needs. Instructors conduct necessary research to plan, develop, implement, deliver and evaluate assigned instructional courses / programs; evaluate student performance; and serve as academic advisor to students as defined by college guidelines. Instructors are also responsible for maintaining records and submitting reports on a timely basis. The work is performed under the supervision of the Department Head of Vocational / Technical Education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as industry liaison person;
  • Maintain contact with agriculture industry personnel and ensure that programs meet industry needs.
  • Develop and maintain current course syllabi for and instruct courses in livestock production and agribusiness.
  • Participate in student recruitment by visiting schools, putting on exhibits at fairs, expos, trade shows and conventions, speak to groups and respond to program information requests.
  • Meet and hold classes as scheduled.
  • Serve as academic advisor to students enrolled in program.
  • Organize Work Based Learning (WBL) segment of program which involves selecting WBL sites, preparing paperwork involved (contracts, evaluation forms, etc.), and visiting students on site during the WBL work experience.
  • Create, administer, grade and maintain records for exams, projects, activities and reports for evaluation of students in each course.
  • Maintain test file with items keyed to objectives.
  • Maintain agribusiness, agriculture education, animal science and Swine Management program advisory committee.
  • Establish course offerings and scheduling for curriculum programs (day and evening).
  • Develop and oversee agriculture program budgets.
  • Assist Director of Marketing with development of promotional activities and with advertising strategies for the Animal Science, Swine Management, Agribusiness and Agriculture Education programs.
  • Keep current on subject matter through readings, industry visits, workshops, conventions, seminars, etc.
  • Participate in the evaluation of and acquisition of instructional materials, audio-visual aids, support and equipment needs.
  • Assist students with career opportunities.
  • Participate in professional organizations, attend conferences and workshops as appropriate and maintain professional contacts with instructors in similar instructional areas on other campuses.
  • Assist in recruitment of students.
  • Provide assistance and information as needed in preparation for external funding proposals.
  • Submit institutional reports on timely basis.
  • Maintain required office hours.
  • Provide students with written course expectations.
  • Acquire computer / technology competencies as appropriate to position.
  • Assist with equipment and software maintenance.
  • Maintain security of personal computer access.
  • Perform other professional or job-related duties as assigned.
  • Serve on college committees.

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE : Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill and abilities.

REQUIREMENTS : Education / Skills

Required : Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Agriculture Education or Animal Science. Good communication skills.

Preferred : Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Agriculture Education. Bilingual.

Experience

Required : Some directly related work experience.

Preferred : Some experience with the instructional delivery via distance learning. Considerable directly related work experience, teaching experience. Understanding of, and commitment to, the Community College System.
