Job Description
The ideal candidate will be responsible for evaluating student progress and providing academic advising. They will also assist in departmental and institutional planning, while providing quality learning experiences and facilitating the learning process.
- Evaluate student progress and provide academic advising.
- Assist in departmental and institutional planning.
- Provide quality learning experiences and facilitate the learning process.
The work is performed under the supervision of the Dean of Arts and Sciences. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides assistance to students.
- Refers students to other college staff when necessary.
- Keeps current on subject matter and teaching methodologies.
- Provides input and participates in College's Planning Process.
- Maintains required office hours each week.
- Advises students based on the College's advising plan.
- Serves as liaison between college, student, public, community and business/industry in area of professional expertise.
- Evaluates educational equipment, computer hardware, and software needs.
- Provides students and college with written course expectations as defined by the college.
- Provides assistance in implementing the College's Program Review process and recommendations.
- Promotes a positive image of college.
- Inventories equipment on an annual basis.
- Serves on college committees.
- Acquires computer/technology competencies as appropriate to position.
- Assists with equipment and software maintenance.
- Maintains security of personal computer access.
Requirements
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Proficiently operate a computer and related software.
Education/Skills:
- Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Biology or a Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution with at least 18 graduate semester hours in a qualifying field.
- Bilingual.
Preferred qualifications include some directly related work experience, some teaching experience, some experience with instructional delivery via distance learning, and some community college experience.
