Overview of the Role
The DOT Specialist will primarily be responsible for assisting in all aspects of Department of Transportation (DOT) administration and compliance for new and existing drivers and vehicles. The position will also be responsible for driver onboarding.
Duties and Responsibilities
- New driver processing and completion of DQ file;
- Completion of all previous employer verification requests;
- Manages expiration data associated with the department (CDL, Medical Examiners Report, Required Training, etc.) in the form of a Driver Expiration Report and communicates report to all districts.
- Assists in the facilitation of new hire on-boarding for DOT and non-DOT new hires;
- Updates and maintains Driver Qualification files as required under FMCSA regulations.
- Assists in the completion of driver qualifications - drug testing, DOT physicals, Clearinghouse queries, and all other related DOT driver requirements.
- Daily processing, handling, and data entry of documents, files, forms, and requests;
- Facilitates fuel cards and for new and existing vehicles;
- Maintains databases for registration, licensing, fuel cards, vehicle inspections, and records inspection;
- Maintains and utilizes best industry practices and;
- All other duties as assigned. SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Intermediate knowledge of DOT regulations, including HAZMAT transportation laws
- Intermediate knowledge of multi-state transportation regulations, including insurance and permit requirements
- Ability to multitask and work with strict deadlines.
- Relevant experience in commercial motor vehicle fleet management, transportation, logistics, and DOT compliance or similar roles
- Knowledge of the rules and regulations associated with interstate and intrastate transportation requirements promulgated by the states of operation
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 2 years DOT compliance experience in driver and fleet maintenance requirements.
- Hazardous materials transport experience preferred.
