Job Summary: Janos Technology, a leader in the design and manufacture of precision optical components, is seeking an engineer to provide support and continuous improvement for new and existing optical component products. This position will create, review, and update manufacturing processes and methods, initiate and implement process improvements and cost reductions, develop and maintain production-related documentation, and develop cost estimates and estimating methodologies. The role also involves supporting sales, interacting with customers on technical questions, and providing print clarification.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Offer hands-on support for manufacturing and engineering processes in optical fabrication areas.
- Operate and troubleshoot machines and processes in Diamond Turning, CNC polish, MRF and conventional optics areas.
- Design and create tooling and fixtures to aid manufacturing.
- Use various metrology equipment to assess components and process performance. Interpreting customer optical specifications and relaying those needs
- Lead and support projects to meet performance, schedule, and cost goals.
- Investigate production failures and implement corrective actions.
- Initiate and lead process improvement projects with a focus on lean manufacturing principles.
- Conduct process testing, data analysis, root cause analysis, and write procedures or test plans as needed.
- Focus on reducing scrap, improving efficiency, cutting costs, and implementing LEAN principles.
- Provide support to other departments to ensure manufacturing requirements are met.
- Assist sales by addressing technical questions and clarifying prints from customers.
- Maintain effective communication with production staff as needed.
Job Qualifications:
- B.S required (in Optical or Mechanical Engineering strongly preferred)
- 5 or more years of related optical engineering experience is strongly preferred.
- LEAN training/certification a plus.
- Strong demonstrated experience in continual process improvements, focused on improving product quality, production effectiveness, and cost reduction.
- Proficiency in various software programs including Solidworks, MasterCAM, and MS Office Suite preferred.
- First-hand knowledge of all major fabrication methods such as diamond turning, conventional grinding and polishing, CNC grinding and polishing preferred.
- Experience with metrology associated with the manufacture of spherical, aspheric, and flat type of components made from IR crystals, and metal mirrors
- Knowledge of optics QA and mil-specs preferred.
