Jansen Combustion and Boiler Technologies, Inc. (Jansen) (www.jansenboiler.com) is seeking to fill a permanent engineering position for a Process Engineer in the Process Technologies department of the company.
Jansen is a well-established boiler consulting and equipment supply company, located in Kirkland, WA, USA.
Jansen provides engineering services and equipment for improving the performance of industrial and power generating boilers burning natural gas, fuel oil, coal, spent pulping liquors, refuse derived fuels, and biomass (wood, bagasse, agricultural wastes, etc.).
The Process Engineer’s job duties include the following:
- Perform detailed field measurements and data analysis to characterize the performance of industrial and power generating boilers and auxiliary equipment (pumps, fans, pollution control equipment, etc.) in support of consulting and engineering services.
- Set up and run parametric evaluations to define current and potential future performance of boilers and auxiliary equipment, using Excel based spreadsheet calculations of combustion, heat and mass balances, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
- Write reports to clients detailing project goals, data collection and analysis, system performance calculations and analysis, and conclusions and recommendations.
- Interact with plant personnel to understand current boiler operating practices, and at times assist operations in trialing/tuning boiler system parameters to improve operation.
- Define process parameters for system retrofits including, but not limited to, upgrades and modifications on combustion air systems, superheaters, air heaters, economizers, pollution control equipment etc.
- Work with the CFD engineering team to assist in the development of boiler models for existing system arrangements as well as future arrangements for improved performance.
- Support the Design Department with equipment data and analysis results for use in the specification and design of equipment upgrades and modifications.
- Support occasional repairs, servicing, calibration work, and equipment purchase of Jansen’s data acquisition instrumentation.
The job will require occasional travel (domestic and international) and field work (approximately 25% of the time).
Required Skills:
- Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Aerospace Engineering with a focus in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, or combustion.
- Ability to independently work on projects while collaborating with our team of engineers.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Demonstrated ability to write reports and give presentations.
- Some knowledge of CFD modeling.
Required Preconditions for Employment:
- This position is located at the Jansen office in Kirkland, WA, USA. However, depending on the candidate’s skillset, experience and education, consideration will be given for a hybrid/remote position.
- The candidate will need to be physically able to walk up and down stairs, and occasionally climb ladders, scaffolds etc. and at times be able to work for short periods in high heat areas.
- The candidate would need to be Citizen of the USA or a US Permanent Resident (Green Card Holder) and have authorization to live and work in the USA. Jansen is currently unable to sponsor employment visas.
The base salary range for this position is US$90,000-$140,000. The salary range is determined by education, experience, and additional role-related considerations.
