What are the responsibilities and job description for the Gallery Exhibition Management Intern position at Japan Society?
The Japan Society Gallery seeks a part-time intern with a background in art history, and a strong interest in the arts, architecture, and culture of Japan. The ideal candidate will want to participate in the daily activities of a nonprofit art gallery, cultivate research and writing skills related to curatorial practice, and learn about exhibition development.

The intern will assist with various tasks including, but not limited to:

- Learn about the development and life cycle of an art exhibition from the planning stages through to its installation
- Gain experience assisting with curatorial research, writing, and editing
- Understand both the daily operations and long-term planning of a nonprofit art institution
- Enrich knowledge of Japanese art, art history, and culture
- Expand understanding of Japanese culture by participating in collaborative programs with other departments at Japan Society
The intern will assist with various tasks including, but not limited to:
- Conducting and compiling research for upcoming exhibitions and gallery programs
- Updating and maintaining gallery collection databases
- Assisting with exhibition installation and de-installation
- Helping prepare for gallery public programs and gallery public tours
- Organizing gallery invitation lists for public events such as opening receptions
- Contributing day-to-day administrative/office support
