Position Overview for Heavy Civil Project Manager :
We are seeking a dedicated, highly organized Heavy Civil Project Manager to oversee and manage all aspects of heavy civil construction projects from inception through completion. In this role, you will work closely with cross-functional teams—including engineers, subcontractors, and clients—to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with contract specifications. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, coupled with relevant experience in heavy civil construction and project management.
Key Responsibilities of Heavy Civil Project Manager :
- Develop comprehensive project budgets, scope of work, and schedules.
- Perform site visits, review project specifications and drawings, and secure any necessary permits.
- Collaborate with estimators during project handover, including interpreting takeoffs and finalizing buyout.
- Coordinate and conduct pre-construction meetings, clearly defining project goals, deliverables, and timelines.
- Maintain regular communication with clients, engineers, subcontractors, and the internal construction team, providing periodic and detailed project status updates.
- Proactively troubleshoot issues on ongoing projects, ensuring any concerns are swiftly addressed.
- Thoroughly understand and ensure compliance with all contractual requirements and project specifications.
- Prepare, track, and manage all necessary documentation (e.g., RFI, RFC, change orders), securing client authorization for additional work prior to commencement.
- Guarantee that all project paperwork—including subcontracts, purchase orders, invoices, and pay applications—is properly completed and submitted in a timely manner.
- Prepare, revise, and maintain project schedules and job budgets.
- Conduct regular reviews of budget vs. actual performance with the Project Superintendent, implementing corrective actions where needed.
- Manage resource planning to optimize labor, materials, and equipment usage.
- Assess and approve subcontractor and supplier bids, ensuring accurate submittals and compliance with project standards.
- Coordinate subcontractor schedules, monitoring progress to ensure deadlines are met and any delays are mitigated.
- Review and approve subcontractor invoices, verifying completed work and accuracy of charges.
- Oversee ordering and timely delivery of materials, ensuring alignment with the project schedule.
- Coordinate with suppliers to resolve any supply chain or material quality issues.
- Keep accurate documentation of material usage, inventory, and cost allocations.
- Uphold company and industry safety standards, ensuring all team members and subcontractors adhere to health and safety regulations.
- Monitor work quality and conduct inspections to confirm compliance with project requirements and quality standards.
- Foster a safety-oriented culture, championing proactive measures to minimize risk.
- Generate regular progress reports and maintain detailed project records, including daily reports, meeting minutes, and correspondence.
- Present updates to senior management or clients, highlighting key milestones, budget reviews, and potential risks or opportunities.
