Head Coach, Women's Basketball - Urgent Need

Job Summary The Head Women's Basketball Coach is responsible for all aspects of the women's basketball program as well as being committed to the academic mission of the University. The Head Coach teaches the sport of basketball to student athletes, and provides for the coaching, recruitment, and retention of women's basketball players. The successful candidate is expected to exhibit and promote sportsmanship, professional and ethical conduct and behavior as well as serve the institution as a positive role model for the student-athletes. Ongoing documented and effective recruitment and retention of student-athletes is imperative in this role. Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning
• Three years' University basketball experience, preferably University coaching experience
• Valid driver's license and the ability to be insured to drive University vehicles required
• Knowledge CPR and First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within six months of and ability to follow University policies and procedures
• Knowledge of intercollegiate baseball program
• Knowledge of and skill in use of computers and software applications, specifically Microsoft Office Skill
• Preparing, monitoring and maintaining budgets
• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful manner
• Ability to relate to a diverse population and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations
• Ability to effectively identify and resolve problems and to maintain strict confidentiality related to sensitive information
• Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate action to resolve problems using independent judgment and decision making processes
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students and the public Role and Responsibilities
• Provides quality coaching and instruction to students participating in the women's basketball program;
• Develops, implements, and teaches related basketball program curriculum;
• Plans, directs, and coaches an intercollegiate women's basketball program that develops student/athletes' fullest potential while being regionally competitive and ethically run;
• Supervises and coordinates basketball events and activities; attends scheduled basketball practices, classes, and all competitions
• Provides ongoing oversight of student athlete's conduct both on and off the court;
• Assists with conflict resolution;
• Provides guidance with negotiating campus processes such as registration, financial aid, residence life;
• Develops an event management plan for each home game;
• Reviews institutional policy on accident reporting and insurance procedures
• Assists Athletic Director in ensuring that all students and prospects have had physicals
• Assists Athletic Director in creating, researching and formulating required reports
• Clarify to student athletes the Letter Award Policy
• Instruct team managers on proper care, maintenance of supplies, equipment, and facilities Year Round Responsibilities
• Provides information to Sports Information Director for press releases, season previews, hometown news articles, women's basketball program web site, and feature stories to various media in compliance with the University's policies and procedures;
• Attends assigned University, department, and division meetings as required
• Inventory, selection, care and maintenance of supplies and equipment
• Identify and recruit academically and athletically talented student-athletes for the program
• Coach/Teach athletes and oversee day-to-day program responsibilities Maintain a competitive and successful program
• Implement and develop fundraising strategies to support annual operating budget
• Promote your program (on campus, in the community, outside the community - speeches to local organizations, player volunteer work, camps, etc.)
• Recruits student athletes who can achieve academic and athletic success; and assists student athletes in realizing individual and team goals
• Assists with the development of positive interpersonal relationships including campus integration with other students and faculty;
• Enforces safety regulations and procedures through supervision of students involved in the program
• Assists in developing the women's basketball program annual budget, monitors expenditures including allocation of scholarships, and develops and implements a successful fund raising plan to meet program needs, goals, and objectives
• Works with Director of Athletics to schedule events and travel to include meals and lodging requirements;
• Formulate objectives for the coming sports season
• Keep abreast of rule changes in sport
• Implement proper procedures for out-of-season practices according to Conference and National Association Guidelines
• Assist in creating a year round calendar for scrimmages, practice sessions, official games, and other necessary activities
