Essential Functions of the Associate Director
Solutions Architect:
Designs and models Data and Delivery architecture, standards, and processes to improve the management of information and data throughout their lifecycles.
Manages the design and implementation of discovery systems by collaborating with AWS, AWS partners, ecosystem vendors and Data Scientists
Collaborates with Infrastructure and Security Architects to ensure alignment with Enterprise standards and designs.
Manages the R&D Discovery IT technology roadmap aligned to evolving business needs.
Communicates designs and architectures to key IT and Business stakeholders.
Participates in the design, development, and implementation of architectural and integration approaches and deliverables, including components of the assessment, optimization of system design, and review of user requirements.
Researches and evaluates potential solutions and recommends the most efficient and cost-effective application/technology solution that meets business requirements.
May code new or modify programs, reuse existing code using program development software alternatives, and/or integrate purchased solutions.
Understands and adheres to corporate standards regarding applicable company policies, including code of conduct, safety, GxP compliance, data security, and the software development lifecycle.
Delivers new and ongoing projects on time.
Manages time allocations and work priorities across teams and projects.
Understands, researches, and engages with the users’ needs to drive projects and ensures that projects deliver to these needs.
Organizational Leadership:
Leads and manages a technical architecture and engineering team, comprised of Company, Vendor, and Partner resources for the purpose of design and development of discovery IT systems.
Contributes by interviewing and selecting technical resources for projects related to Big Data systems.
Coaches support teams on technical concepts, designs, and system functionality.
Requirements
Work Experience and Education
10 years of experience working in a data-driven research environment.
15 years of IT domain experience is required.
5 years working in a solutions architecture capacity, preferably in a biopharmaceutical or research environment.
Deep understanding of cloud computing technologies and current computing trends
5 years of experience designing, migrating, and implementing computation, hosting, and storage solutions on Amazon Web Services (AWS)
2 years of experience using Data management tools such as Databricks, Immuta, Informatica.
Strong security-first mindset. Track-record of partnering with security teams to delivery cutting edge solutions at research pace.
Deeply passionate about learning and innovating new technology to drive biological, chemical, and gene-based research.
An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in computer science, engineering, finance, business management or a related field, or equivalent experience, is required.
Leadership and Teamwork
Strong history of effective cross-functional team collaboration and execution
Ready to think, behave and act in an innovative consulting manner to drive the priorities of the R&D functions.
Effective leadership skills. These include team building, consensus building, the ability to balance team and individual responsibilities and achieving goals through others not directly under the leader's supervision, by working ethically and with integrity.
