About the Role - This role is responsible for overseeing the customs brokerage and trade compliance functions for Sealed Air while serving as the primary onsite contact for all shipping-related inquiries. Acting as the key liaison between Sealed Air, JAS, and regulatory authorities, this specialist ensures smooth customs clearance while delivering high-quality customer service.
Responsibilities
- Customs Brokerage & Compliance: Ensure compliance with all U.S. Customs and international trade regulations, preventing violations and ensuring proper documentation for import/export activities. Oversee customs clearance processes, including classification under the Harmonized Tariff System (HTS), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and Export Control Classification Number (ECCN). Conduct Denied Party Screenings and maintain records using Vestera software, ensuring adherence to Sealed Air’s compliance policies. Act as the primary contact for Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) compliance and liaise with government agencies regarding trade compliance matters. Assist brokers with Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) requirements, validating and submitting regulatory documentation for Sealed Air products. Manage trade operations across multiple locations, ensuring compliance with Incoterms and facilitating smooth international transactions.
- Customer Service & Shipment Coordination: Serve as the on-site representative for Sealed Air’s logistics and trade compliance, providing real-time updates on shipments, customs clearance, and any issues that arise. Process and monitor shipments, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with company policies. Investigate and resolve delays, shortages, or service failures, working with carriers, brokers, and internal teams. Communicate shipment details, pricing, anticipated delays, and additional required information to customers and JAS offices. Support internal teams by providing training, guidance, and regulatory expertise on trade compliance and shipment coordination.
- Process Improvement & Reporting: Develop and implement process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency in trade compliance and customer service. Generate and analyze monthly performance reports, tracking compliance metrics, brokerage efficiency, and customer service performance. Maintain strong relationships with freight forwarders, brokers, and internal stakeholders to ensure seamless operations.
Qualifications & Experience
- 10 years of experience in customs brokerage, trade compliance, or freight forwarding.
- In-depth knowledge of U.S. import/export regulations (to include cross-border), customs brokerage processes, and international trade policies.
- Experience in overseeing customs clearance processes, including classification under the Harmonized Tariff System (HTS), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and Export Control Classification Number (ECCN).
- Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate between multiple stakeholders.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word).
- Experience working in SAP, ERP platform is strongly preferred.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
