Terms of Employment: This position is approximately 10 months. Salary and work year to be set yearly as established by the Board of Education. Benefits according to Board policies.

Purpose: The job of the Building Principal is to provide leadership to teachers and students, assist teachers and students to have optimum learning experiences and to facilitate teachers to attain their highest effectiveness in instruction.

Qualifications: Valid Missouri Teacher’s Certificate/Administrative Certificate of building level.

Essential Functions:

Instructional Leadership

  • Provide direction for the school and follow district vision, CSIP, policies, regulations and procedures.
  • Works collaboratively to reach and support curriculum decisions that effectively enhance student attainment of district approved learning goals.
  • Supports appropriate curricular offerings and effectively organizes those offerings personnel to staff.
  • Provides instructional management that supports stated instructional goals of the district.
  • Effectively implements formative evaluation strategies oriented toward improvement of instruction.
  • Provides leadership for positive educational change.
  • Provides summative guidance for staff within the chain of command.
  • Provides recommendations for personnel employment decisions within the chain of command.
  • Maintains confidentiality and professionalism.

Organizational Management

  • Provides for effective and efficient day to day operation of the school, including assignment of supervisory times.
  • Ensures that the school facilities are clean, orderly and conducive to a positive learning environment.
  • Ensures efficient, ethical and legal management and accountability of building level fiscal resources.
  • Promotes and maintains a positive school climate.
  • Follows the district’s procedures for fund management, requisitioning of supplies and equipment, inventory maintenance.

Student-Centered Orientation

  • Establishes and maintains an effective, overall tone for discipline in the school; follows district approved policy, procedures, regulations and rules.
  • Promotes positive student attitudes about school and staff.
  • Ensures ongoing communication among teachers with parents/guardians regarding students.
  • Consistently demonstrates decision making focused on what is best for students.

Staff Personnel

  • Demonstrates effective skill in the recruitment, retention, selection and evaluation of school personnel for school and extracurricular activities.
  • Works effectively with all staff.
  • Promotes ongoing staff development.
  • Supports a collaborative work environment.

School Community Relations

  • Works effectively with parents.
  • Works effectively with community agencies.

Personal Development

  • Demonstrates personal motivation and self discipline and sensitivity to others.
  • Effectively manages stress.
  • Is a professional role model to students and staff

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the superintendent on an ongoing basis. Professional goal setting and steps toward attainment of those goals, ongoing mentorship and legitimate feedback will be followed by a summative evaluation conversation between the principal and the superintendent. The principal will be evaluated using a performance based model.

Physical Requirements: Sit, stand, walk, or kneel for extended periods and move efficiently around the school grounds, which include stairs; occasionally reach with hands and arms and push, pull, or lift up to 50 lbs; see, hear, and talk clearly to interact with students, staff, and parents; use a computer and other office equipment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
