Barista/Server

Java Nation in Silver Spring is looking for a part-time Barista/Server to join our team. We are looking for people who share our passion for creating and serving delicious handcrafted food and freshly roasted coffee. Candidates must be positive, friendly and enjoy working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Job Overview

As a Server you will be responsible for taking orders from and serving food to customers. Duties will mostly include taking food and drink orders and ensuring that tables are served properly and that all payments are collected. You will also maintain a clean and well-stocked workspace and dining area, update displays, and continuously expand your knowledge of food and beverage quality controls, preparation methods and presentation. To succeed as a Server you should be committed to providing customers with excellent service. You should be positive, friendly, knowledgeable, and polite. You will need to have a positive attitude and the ability to work well under pressure with bussers, cooks and other staff.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Take food and drink orders from customers accurately and with a positive attitude.
• Write patrons' food orders on order slips or memorize orders, and enter orders into POS system for transmittal to kitchen staff.
• Engage with customers in a friendly manner.
• Knowledge of the menu, with the ability to make suggestions.
• Ensure tables are enjoying their meals and take action to correct any problems.
• Collect payments from tables.
• Prepare checks that itemize and total meal costs and sales taxes.
• Help food preparation staff when necessary.
• Working in as part of a fun, high-energy team.
• Adhering to all food safety regulations and quality controls.
• Preparing foods, such as parfaits or baked goods, and grinding and blending coffee beans, brewing coffee and tea, and serving items to customers.
• Cleaning and restocking work and dining areas

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in food and beverage preparation or customer service preferred.
• Training and willingness to continue learning about food and beverage preparation.
• Exceptional listening and communication skills.
• Ability to walk, bend, and stand for extended periods.
• Availability to work around peak hours, including nights, early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
• A polite, engaging personality.
• Commitment to customer satisfaction and service excellence.
• Willingness to work as part of a high-energy, efficient team in a fast-paced environment.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
