As the Assistant Director you perform a variety of management and leadership functions. You will assist the Director of Education Services in the day-to-day management of teacher services, and you will coordinate the CPSE initial evaluation process and work with the CPSE chairpersons to discuss various issues and solutions during the school year. You will oversee the School Age Summer Education program and provide the day-to-day administrative supervision of the program for 7 weeks in July and August.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Other duties may be assigned.
- Coordinates the CPSE team of this Agency which provides initial evaluation services for preschool aged children (3yrs. – 5yrs.) This includes, but is not limited to, scheduling of the evaluations, conducting the classroom observation for initial evaluations, writing the evaluation summary, reviewing the evaluations with parents, entering all information into the Individualized Education Program on IEP Direct and attending all initial CPSE meetings.
- Works with district chairpersons of the Committee on Preschool Special Education to discuss various issues, experiences, and viable solutions at various times during the school year.
- Participates in the preparation of annual reviews of the preschool educational program, training teachers and therapists in use of IEP, scheduling the reviews, coordinating the information provided by all teachers and therapists.
- Assists with the supervision of preschool classroom teachers to ensure the implementation of the NYS Common Core Standards and Creative Curriculum.
- Assists Director of Educational Services with other supervisory and leadership functions for the preschool including orientation, training, coaching, and other employee relations activities, as needed.
- Supervises Teaching Assistants, Teacher Aides and 1:1 Aides to support classroom teachers in addressing the students’ IEP Goals.
- Supervises and carries out a variety of leadership functions for the summer education program, including hiring, orientation and training of new employees.
- Maintains communication with parents, creates and implements program-wide schedules, activities and weekly staff meetings for the summer education program.
- Completes teacher performance appraisals for summer education teachers. Reviews aide performance appraisals with teachers.
- Assists Director of Educational Services with developing class and group lists and placement of students in appropriate classrooms/groups as per their IEP and district requests.
- Maintains a safe, orderly working area and work practices.
Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
Master’s degree in special education with a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience. Certification by NYS as a Teacher of Special Education. Experience in supervision and administration required. NYSED administrative certification (SAS/SDA/SBL/SDL) required.
Additional Requirements:
- Remain current in all required training.
- Must be cleared and maintain acceptable record under the state mandated criminal background check process.
- Must be clear and maintain an acceptable record under the Medicaid Fraud & Abuse clearance process.
- Must complete 30 hours of OCFS training every 2 years, with 15 hours within the first 6 months of employment.
Salary : $95,000 - $100,000
