Description
As the Maintenance Mechanic, you will perform a variety of work in the maintenance of facilities the grounds at various group home locations, and the main office. In addition, to include though not limited to minor carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and painting as needed. Keeps work log and work orders for specific site requirements. Maintains clean, safe, and orderly work sites for a healthy, barrier free and productive environment for Jawonio’s consumers, employees and visitors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Maintains grounds in clean and orderly manner including mowing, trimming, weeding, aerating and fertilizing lawns; replaces plants as needed; sets sprinklers; replaces broken sprinkler heads; adjusts automatic time clocks and system pressure if necessary; maintains grounds maintenance equipment; trims tree branches that create hazardous situations; repairs and replaces outside bulbs in lighting fixtures which requires climbing a ladder.
- Knowledge of and adherence to OSHA standards and guidelines to include equipment safety and storage, and proper use of protective gear.
- Safe and proper use of common hand and power tools such as screwdrivers, saws, drills, wrenches, electrical meter and hammers.
- Knowledge of building codes and proper building system operation
- Perform proper preventative maintenance to ensure that building components continue to perform as designated and in a healthy and safe manor
- Responsible for coordinating, scheduling and follow-up on all building maintenance, to include equipment repair work.
- Is primary responsible party to respond to calls from alarm company regarding alarms being set off inside building to alarms during working hours and during off hours.
- Responsible for winterizing each group home, inspect drives, motors and belts, check fluid levels and replace filters in heating and air conditioning systems.
- Maintains cleanliness of outside areas of the property, removing litter and debris. As instructed, keeps walks and driveways clean of snow and ice. Responsible for sanding and salting of walkways and roadways. Performs snow and ice removal, utilizing snow plow attached to agency vehicle, shovels, and other equipment needed to ensure the agency grounds are safe and hazard free.
- Performs minor repairs and maintenance duties including painting, hanging shelves, moving furniture and other material. Responsible for minor plumbing and electrical repairs including washers, replacement of faucets, drain pipes, parts of and/or toilets, electrical outlets, ballasts, etc.
- Direct and follow-up on work performed by vendors. Communicate feedback to Facility Director regarding vendors and work load.

Qualifications
Education/Experience:
High school/GED plus two years’ experience.
Additional Requirements:
- Must possess basic to intermediate carpentry, electrical, plumbing and masonry knowledge and skills;
- Must have a full working knowledge of the associated tools.
- Must possess basic troubleshooting skills; capable of diagnosing building system problems and determine best means of repairing (outsource or internal repair) to include Heating, Ventilation, plumbing, electrical, fire, roofing, domestic water.
- Must know how to prepare surfaces and paint or stain.
- Must know how to use repair manuals, understand blueprints, specification sheets, and parts catalogs.
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record a minimum of two years as per our insurance company.
Salary : $18 - $20
