Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to provide specialized instruction to preschool children with special needs. This role involves designing and implementing individualized lesson plans, conducting assessments, and working collaboratively with families and interdisciplinary teams to support each child’s development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instruction & Curriculum Development:
- Develop and implement specialized instruction tailored to individual student needs, utilizing Creative Curriculum and other instructional strategies.
- Adapt lesson plans based on observations, evaluations, and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to ensure student progress.
- Collaborate with classroom staff to execute instructional goals and provide an engaging learning environment.
- Student Assessment & Progress Monitoring:
- Conduct ongoing assessments and individualized testing to evaluate student progress.
- Collect and analyze data for annual reviews, progress reports, and school district submissions.
- Prepare reports and documentation for CPSE (Committee on Preschool Special Education) and CSE (Committee on Special Education) meetings.
- IEP Development & Implementation:
- Participate in CPSE and CSE meetings to present student progress and create new IEPs.
- Modify and update IEPs to reflect students' changing needs and learning goals.
- Coordinate with therapists, social workers, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive student support.
- Classroom & Student Support:
- Monitor and assist students with physical positioning, mobility, and the use of adaptive equipment.
- Provide hands-on support with daily living activities such as dressing, feeding, toileting, and diapering.
- Supervise and mentor Teaching Assistants and Teacher’s Aides, assigning tasks and providing guidance.
- Conduct annual performance evaluations for Teaching Assistants.
- Family & Team Collaboration:
- Maintain open communication with parents to provide updates and guidance on supporting their child’s learning at home.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings with therapists and classroom staff to develop effective learning strategies.
- Provide training and support to staff and parents as needed.
- Professional Development:
- Stay current with best practices in special education and early childhood education to integrate new strategies into the classroom.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Special Education or Early Childhood Education required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Certification: NYS Certification in Early Childhood and Special Education (Birth–Grade 2) required.
- Experience: At least one year of experience working with children with developmental delays, autism spectrum disorders, or moderate to severe disabilities preferred.
Note: This position has the option of being a 12-month position, per the special requirements set forth in the policy for Special Education Program Staff.
