MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Elements
- Maintain an active student caseload.
- Evaluate speech, language or feeding disorders to assess the student's level of functioning and to determine, recommend, and provide the appropriate therapy or treatment with appropriate approval.
- Plan and conduct student therapy sessions including reviewing files, establishing treatment goals, techniques, and materials to ensure treatment is appropriate and effective.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the therapy as measured by progress or carry over.
- Write reports and daily log notes necessary to record each student contact including evaluation of sessions and progress.
- Prepare reports outlining goals and progress for the purpose of measuring appropriateness and quality of service.
- Provide information to students, parents, and teachers to answer questions and provide guidance related to feeding, speech and language progress.
- Consult with other agencies and outside professionals to review case studies, therapy techniques and other departmental matters.
- Participates in inter-departmental in-service programs with other professional personnel to brainstorm ideas, exchange new information and to receive feedback on treatment and work performed.
- Attends CSE and CPSE meetings as required by the school districts with personnel involved with student`s families.
- Supervises internships for candidates of Bachelor or Master Programs.
Nonessential Elements
- May assist in organizing and cleaning the facilities and clinic areas.
- May prepare various clerical or administrative records related to the activity of the department.
- May participate in providing training or in-service programs for staff.
- May participate in conferences related to agency services.
- May attend outside conferences and engage in continuing education.
- Maintains safe, orderly work area and work practices.
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications
BACKGROUND/FORMAL EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Required: New York State Teaching Certificate-Speech & Hearing Handicapped (TSHH) or Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD). NYS SLP Licensure/CCC
MINIMUM LEARNING TIME: 3-6 months
INTERRELATIONSHIPS: Continual close contact with teachers, preschool staff, agency professionals, students, and their families. Frequent contact with professionals outside the agency such as school district teachers, CPSE, physicians, equipment vendors.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Lifting, pushing, and pulling of equipment and students for most of the day. May be required to kneel or bend for periods of time depending on the student’s individual needs and nature of treatments.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Valid NYS licensure as speech therapist
Salary : $50,000 - $60,000
