Location: Mission Hills, CA 91345
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm
Language: American Sign Language (ASL)
We are looking for an American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to provide interpreting services to facilitate communication and ensure access throughout all areas of the JNCS agency for Deaf/Hard of Hearing (D/HH) supported individuals and employees.
Job Responsibilities:
- Interpret requests from supported individuals with autism and other intellectual and./or developmental disabilities concerning direct support needs, wants and desires to promote autonomy, and etc.
- Interpret employee requests regarding supported individual/staff meetings, supported individual medical appointments, JNCS policies, and etc.
- Attend meetings including department meetings, staff supervision meetings, supported individual in-services, quarterly program meetings, and training for staff that require interpreting.
- Interpret documents including employment documents, training documentation and program documentation as needed.
- Interpret verbal- and video-based resources (including but not limited to internal training materials, staff communications, and social media/external outreach content).
- Understand and communicate JNCSs Mission and policies and procedures when necessary.
- Maintain calendar of availability for all meetings that require interpreting components (including requests that extend to community environments).
- Maintain monthly JNCS interpreting log.
- Assist in developing and expanding Deaf access extending to recruitment components, social media outlets, and employee training.
- Provide positive communication and support to supported individuals and staff at all times.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Be able to effectively interpret highly complex or specialized subject matter that may require a high degree of linguistic, cognitive, and technical skill in order to fully convey all aspects of the experience.
- Minimum 5 years of interpreting experience.
- B.A or Master's degree within the related field.
- Certification from the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or certification equivalent is desired.
- Comprehensive understanding of Deaf Culture.
- Experience in Sight Translation is highly desirable.
- Ability to internalize and implement organization mission, culture, and values.
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and persuasively.
- Ability to interact effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures.
- Ability to be an effective team member.
