Job Description :
The Direct Support Specialist (DSS) will be one of the first people to support an individual within the Adaptive Skills Training (AST) program. This position will set the standard and expectation for the support an individual will receive. This role bridges the gap between the Direct Support Professional (DSP) and Adaptive Skills Supervisor through enhanced responsibilities including support with intake assessments, onboarding, on the job training of new DSPs, recruitment, and more. On a day-to-day basis, the DSS provides temporary support to individuals in a community setting. This position requires flexibility, adaptability, and a strong commitment to providing quality care. The DSS will work various shifts to ensure continuity of support for individuals.
Responsibilities :
Provide time limited one-to-one support to an individual in their home & community who has a diagnosis of Autism or other developmental disabilities & has limited safety awareness.
Implement the individuals Support Plan as developed
Assess individual's baseline towards Support Plan, provide necessary feedback to supervisor including making recommendations for revisions to the plan
Support Adaptive Skills Supervisor facilitate training of incoming Direct Support Professional for individual
Participate and assist with recruitment efforts including Job Fairs and Onboarding
Participate in ongoing advanced training and professional development opportunities.
Attend Biweekly meetings with Adaptive Skills Manager to reassess assignment, to focus on priority requisitions.
Maintain written documentation through Daily Logs of support with each individual and their progress towards outcome indicators
Provide input on Intake Assessment up to and including the completion of assessment
Provide the necessary accommodations to support an individual with various challenges (behavioral, physical, communication, etc.) within their home and community
Support the individual to establish a daily / weekly schedule of activities.
Act as a mentor and role model for socially acceptable and culturally valued ways to interact and support each other to be successful
Participate hands-on in all activities
Assist and support the person to maintain their own personal safety and well-being
Provide information to family members about the unique needs of the individual to assist in the building of a more cohesive family unit.
Comply with all policies and procedures of the organization and public locations of activities
Other responsibilities as assigned
Requirements :
Language Requirement : Bilingual (Spanish)
Minimum 3 years of Direct Support Experience
Must have a BA degree in Human Services or other related field
Preferred : Experience supporting a variety of individuals
Experience with written documentation (i.e. case notes, SIRs, person plans)
Willing to drive up to 30 miles between work sites (mileage reimbursement eligible)
Valid California Driver's License / Reliable Transportation
