What are the responsibilities and job description for the Purchasing Manager - Class A Motorhomes position at Jayco?
Purpose : This position exists to plan, coordinate, direct, organize, monitor and lead purchasing functions to secure required materials and products, including chassis, in a manner that satisfies Jayco’s quantity, quality, cost and timeliness standards.
Essential Functions
Makes new supplier contacts, negotiates contracts and pricing structures, analyses data to assess effectiveness.
Communicates with suppliers on a regular basis for discussion on new items, quality issues or other problem areas, including pricing and company needs.
Communicates with chassis suppliers regarding forecasting, ordering, monitoring build status and relaying information to the Jayco team.
Monitors off-line shortage, no quote and lead time reports taking appropriate follow-up action as required.
Plans for longer-term activities by forecasting conditions, defining missions, strategies and objectives and securing organizational commitment.
Supervises, manages, selects, trains, develops and assigns work of Inventory Control, Production Control and Line Buyer.
Manages records & sets up chassis specs in Microsoft AX.
Other Functions
Coordinates with Customer Service personnel regarding warranty and recall issues providing supplier information as needed.
Coordinates and provides MSDS information for Safety Manager.
Receives, logs chassis inventory and renames chassis in Microsoft AX after compiling receipt documentation.
Assigns VINs to sales order and Jayco unit numbers.
Assembles chassis packets and transfer process assuring documentation is accurate for Shipping.
Experience / Knowledge
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
10 or more years of related experience and broad knowledge of RV products and components is required.
RV or automotive industry experience is preferred.
Requires thorough understanding of automotive bailment and demo agreements.
Necessary Skills & Abilities
Demonstrates analytical problem-solving skills while using good judgement and decision making processes.
Critical thinking ability, problem solving sensitivity and inductive reasoning skills are needed.
Requires ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions along with ability to interpret technical information.
Strong communication, collaboration and persuasion skills are required with demonstrated ability to communicate, negotiate successfully and lead team well.
Must display professionalism in all interactions and the ability to maintain a positive attitude through periods of adversity and disagreement.
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects efficiently.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including AX.
Must comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures.
Work Requirements
This position may require sitting, standing, and working in front of a computer monitor in an office setting approximately 65% of the day.
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and stoop, kneel, or crouch; use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to frequently lift and move up to 20 pounds.
This position is a full-time position, which may require some flexibility in hours & days worked.
