What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Estimator position at Jayeff Construction?
National retail, commercial general contractor seeks a full time estimator.
Responsibilities:
- Review bid documents, including, but not limited to drawings, specifications, client requirements, client program information, property owner requirements, etc.
- Attend bid walks with owners and subcontractors to assist in fully understanding the project requirements
- Identify the required sub-trades that are necessary to complete the work outline in the bid documents.
- Prepare detailed scope of work sheets and checklists identifying key areas of work for each specific sub-trade
- Work directly with estimating solicitor to obtain subcontractor proposals from qualified subcontractors. Assist with subcontractor follow ups.
- Perform detailed quantity take offs for all trades of work utilizing onscreen take off programs.
- Organize the information into a detailed cost estimate consisting of material costs, labor hours, and total pricing for each trade.
- Review and qualify subcontractor proposals against the bid documents for complete scope, accurate pricing, and schedule.
- Prepare full general contractor bid following detail project analysis. Make pricing and subcontractor recommendations to Chief Estimator/Project Manager
- Prepare preliminary construction schedule that meets clients demands and identify key dates and project milestones. Must be presented Gannt critical path format
- Maintain updated material pricing lists with local vendors and current hourly rates for subcontractors
- Provide value engineer and cost saving ideas, when warranted
- Review subcontractor’s proposed change orders for accuracy, completeness, and agreement prior to being submitted to the client.
Requirements:
- 3-5 years of experience in a similar position with project values ranging from $50,000 - $10m.
- Strong communication skills – both written and verbal with external vendors and office personnel
- Ability to multi-task and work under short duration/deadlines
- Knowledge of commercial construction practices, materials, building codes, and OSHA standards
- Ability to travel – local and nationally. Approximately 10% of the time.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, & Project is essential
- Must be knowledgeable with on screen take off programs - Planswift is preferred.
- Knowledge of Procore, AutoCAD, Timberline is beneficial.
