The Weekend Kitchen Supervisor will play a vital role in providing an average of 690 nutritious meals daily to individuals experiencing homelessness. This position requires a passion for leading, teamwork, cooking, a commitment to community service, and the ability to engage the community and lead in a fast-paced environment.
This position combines leadership, culinary skills, and a commitment to community service, playing a crucial role in promoting health and well-being within the shelter population. A successful candidate for this position must be a servant leader who is committed to serving their team, collaborating with the Food Service Manager, and demonstrating humility by engaging in hands-on work.
The schedule day shift on Saturdays, Sunday, plus 1-3 weekdays as agreed upon with Food Service Manager. This schedule can vary to support the needs of the organization.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Lead and manage kitchen operations and staff and volunteers during weekend shifts by:
- Planning menus that are nutritious, appealing, and cost-effective.
- Ensuring the high-quality and appealing presentation of meals served to guests.
- Ensuring stations are set-up and stocked with all necessary supplies for shifts.
- Ensuring food is prepared for service adhering to safety policies (e.g. chopping, vegetables, thawing meat, or preparing sauces).
- Ensuring workstations are clean and equipment is clean and ready after meals and that leftover food is stored properly.
- Inventory management:
- Track inventory and oversee purchasing of food and supplies.
- Ensure adequate product inventory and manage deliveries to pantry.
- Manage waste and other food cost controls.
- Represent the EGM’s people leadership values during weekend shifts by:
- Ensuring a kitchen environment where staff are cooperatively working together to cook the menu items in a professional manner.
- Addressing complaints and concerns promptly in a courteous manner and notifies the Food Service Manager of any issues.
- Training and supervising kitchen staff and volunteers during the weekends.
- Attend and participate in all meetings and training courses as assigned.
- Submit accurate timesheets in a timely and accurate manner.
- Assist Food Service Manager in reviewing weekend kitchen staff’s timesheets.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Preferred: 1-2 years of experience in food preparation/kitchen production demonstrating consistent
- growth and progression in the role.
- Preferred: High School diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation guidelines.
- Proven experience in food service, preferably in a nonprofit or community setting.
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Compassionate and respectful attitude towards individuals experiencing homelessness. Proven track record working with a diverse population.
- Ability to lead in a dynamic environment.
- Experience in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
- Frequent standing, walking and sitting; sitting at a desk and moving from building to building; being outdoors regularly.
- Occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
