Construction Estimator/Draftsman
J.B. Gibbons Construction has been a leader in commercial building construction since 1967. For 50 years our knowledgeable team and hard work has kept us as one of Central Pennsylvania's foremost commercial contractors. We are currently seeking an Estimator/Draftsman to help complete estimates for a variety of commercial construction projects. This candidate will also draft sketch drawings to help understand and sell projects.
We are looking for a detail-oriented construction estimator and draftsman with a minimum of 3 years commercial estimating and/or drafting experience. This candidate will be responsible to obtain all relevant project specifications, determine the most appropriate building materials, and secure favorable prices on all resources. You should also inspect trends in construction to determine whether your estimates are both reasonable and competitive. This candidate should also have a minimum of 3 years commercial drafting experience in either AutoCAD or Revit with basic knowledge of commercial construction techniques, materials and practices.
Responsibilities:
Collecting all pertinent documents including property plans, technical drawings, and project specifications.
Explore documentation in order to gain a deep understanding of the project requirements, meeting with clients, and inspecting the construction site to fully understand what work is required.
Prepare relevant and reliable forecast and conduct complex risk analysis activities.
Deciding on the most appropriate human and material resources for each project by selecting, measuring, and tracking important metrics to formulate a cost estimate.
Obtaining multiple quotes for each of these and then selecting the most suitable offers.
Negotiating with service providers to secure better prices.
Outlining the work plan to gauge how much time will be needed to complete each development.
Performing risk assessments to account for potential deviations from the project plan.
Accounting for the use of our resources, plus a reasonable profit margin.
Drafting proposals that detail materials, costs, and time frames.
Meeting with clients to discuss their thoughts and concerns about our offers.
Visit sites necessary to do the estimate.
Create and present reports to upper management.
Build and maintain long-term relationships with the key vendors.
Requirements
Minimum 3 years commercial estimating experience with proven results.
Minimum 3 years commercial drafting experience with examples.
Qualification in project management is highly advantageous.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical specifications.
Knowledge of relevant technical and non-technical documents.
Exceptional quantitative skills.
Outstanding research and proposal writing skills.
Ability to negotiate with seasoned sales personnel.
Dependable, conscientious, and well-spoken.
