We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Yard Operator & CDL A Driver to join our team and support both yard operations and heavy equipment transport as needed.
Position Overview
The Heavy Equipment Yard Operator & CDL A Driver will primarily be responsible for managing and maintaining the heavy equipment processing yard, including loading, unloading, and organizing equipment. This role will also serve as a backup CDL A Heavy Haul Driver, transporting equipment when needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Yard Operations:
- Load, unload, and secure heavy equipment using appropriate machinery and methods.
- Organize, inspect, and maintain equipment in the yard.
- Assist with inventory tracking and ensure efficient yard operations.
- Perform minor equipment maintenance and inspections as needed.
- Heavy Haul Transportation:
- Safely operate a Class A commercial vehicle to transport heavy equipment when required.
- Secure loads properly using chains, binders, and other appropriate tie-down methods.
- Operate and maneuver various trailer types, including Lowboy/RGN, Landoll, and Dovetail trailers.
- Maintain compliance with DOT regulations, including pre/post-trip inspections and logbook requirements.
- Ensure safe and timely delivery of equipment while maintaining a professional demeanor with customers.
Qualifications
Must-Have:
- Minimum 3 years of Class A CDL experience hauling heavy equipment.
- Age 23 or older (per insurance requirements).
- Valid CDL Class A License with Manual Transmission experience.
- Current DOT Medical Card.
- Clean PSP and MVR with no major violations.
- Strong knowledge of load securement, weight distribution, and DOT regulations.
- Ability to safely operate and load/unload heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes, bulldozers, etc.
Preferred:
- Experience hauling with Lowboy/RGN, Landoll, and Dovetail trailers.
- Previous experience working in a heavy equipment yard or logistics environment.
- Mechanical knowledge or ability to assist with minor maintenance.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in outdoor conditions.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
- Ability to climb, bend, kneel, and work around heavy equipment safely.
