The Inventory Specialist is responsible for managing and maintaining accurate inventory records of heavy equipment, parts, and supplies within the storage yard. This role ensures that inventory levels are optimized, discrepancies are minimized, and equipment is readily available for operational needs. The Inventory Specialist will collaborate closely with the Yard Manager, procurement team, and other departments to maintain efficient inventory control and support overall yard operations by adopting a team mentality in all things.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inventory Management:
- Maintain accurate inventory records of heavy equipment, parts, and supplies.
- Perform regular inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies.
- Track inventory levels and reorder points to ensure timely restocking of supplies and parts.
- Manage incoming and outgoing shipments, including verifying quantities and inspecting for damage.
- Data Entry and Reporting:
- Enter and update inventory data in the inventory management system.
- Generate inventory reports and provide analysis on inventory trends and discrepancies.
- Prepare and submit inventory-related documentation as required.
- Coordination and Communication:
- Coordinate with the procurement team to ensure timely and accurate ordering of parts and supplies.
- Communicate inventory needs and issues with the Yard Manager and other relevant departments.
- Collaborate with equipment operators and maintenance personnel to ensure accurate inventory usage and tracking.
- Quality Control and Compliance:
- Inspect incoming shipments for accuracy and quality.
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations in the storage and handling of inventory.
- Implement and maintain inventory control procedures and best practices.
- System Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for improving inventory management processes and systems.
- Participate in the implementation of new inventory management software or tools.
- Other Duties:
- Participate in safety meetings and training sessions as required
- All other duties as assigned by yard management
Qualifications:
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate's degree in logistics, supply chain management, or related field preferred.
- Experience:
- Proven experience in inventory management, preferably in a heavy equipment or industrial environment.
- Familiarity with inventory management software and systems.
- Skills:
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of heavy equipment and parts is a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily outdoor work in a storage yard environment.
- Exposure to various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
