Production Manager - Heavy Equipment Yard

Job Summary:
The Production Manager will oversee front-line associates in a heavy equipment yard specializing in OEM-specific machinery. This role ensures efficiency, quality, and compliance in the assembly, inspection, and pre-delivery processes of heavy equipment. The Production Manager will lead skilled workers performing assembly, inspections, and quality control of heavy machinery before delivery to customers.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Hires, trains, and manages front-line employees.
• Organizes, directs, and oversees work schedules and responsibilities of associates.
• Conducts performance evaluations and provides constructive feedback.
• Handles disciplinary actions and terminations in accordance with company policies.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Coordinate daily operations in the heavy equipment yard, ensuring efficient workflows.
• Oversee the assembly of OEM heavy machinery, ensuring quality and compliance with manufacturer specifications.
• Monitor and assess production data, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
• Conduct and oversee pre-delivery inspections, ensuring equipment meets safety and operational standards.
• Ensure proper use of hand, electric, and air-powered tools in the assembly process.
• Collaborate with maintenance teams to address and resolve any machinery issues.
• Regularly inspect and evaluate equipment for defects, quality assurance, and adherence to safety guidelines.
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA and hazardous material handling.
• Develop and enforce safety protocols and best practices within the yard.
• Assist in budgeting and cost management to optimize production efficiency.
• Serve as a point of contact for customers regarding equipment inspections and deliveries.
• Participate in safety meetings and required training sessions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Strong leadership and supervisory skills with experience managing skilled tradespeople.
• Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to operate and inspect heavy equipment, including forklifts and overhead cranes.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and inventory management systems.
• Ability to read and interpret machine manuals, schematics, and technical documents.
• Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety standards.
• Experience using digital inspection apps for reporting and documentation.

Education and Experience:

• Associate’s degree in a related field, or equivalent industry work experience required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of three years of supervisory experience in a production, manufacturing, or equipment yard environment preferred.
• Experience in assembly, quality control, or pre-delivery inspection of heavy machinery highly preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of standing and walking in an outdoor storage yard.
• Exposure to various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
• Frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs overhead and working at heights up to 15 feet.
• Ability to climb in and out of heavy machinery for inspection and assembly purposes.
