JOB SUMMARY:

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist is a nurse with substantially specialized knowledge, judgment, and skill. This position is primarily responsible for the administration of anesthesia and related services as delegated by the clinical and non-clinical responsibilities described herein and regulated by the Kentucky Board of Nursing, the AANA/ASA guidelines, and in accordance to the Ephraim McDowell Health professional practice model. She/he is responsible for the implementation of the vision, mission, philosophy, and core values of the organization and Ephraim McDowell Health. The CRNA is accountable to the Director of Surgical Services for maintaining safe, quality, cost-effective and comprehensive anesthesia services. She/he works in collaboration with other disciplines to accomplish patient and family-centered care. Exhibits the F.I.R.S.T. values (Friendliness, Innovation, Respect, Service, and Trust).

WORKING CONDITIONS, HAZARDS, AND PHYSICAL EFFORT

The CRNA must be able to work under very stressful conditions. These will include constant interruptions, occasional long hours, long periods on call, and assisting with the moving of heavy patients and equipment. The CRNA should be able to work without direct supervision. Works in clean, well-lit, ventilated and air-conditioned area, but visits to other departments are necessary. The CRNA must be able to work in all areas in which anesthetics are administered. Must be able to move or position 25 lbs. independently.

Patients, physicians and Associates, other health care providers, administrative staff, and Organizational support services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR EQUIVALENTS

Education: The CRNA must be a graduate of an accredited school of nurse anesthesia. The CRNA must maintain current state licensures and be certified by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.

Experience: The CRNA will have met all of the criteria for certification by the AANA.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR REGISTRATIONS

Must be a graduate of a nurse anesthesia program accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthesia Council. Must hold current state licensure as a registered nurse, advanced nurse practitioner, and currently be certified by the AANA Council on Recertification of Nurse Anesthesia.
