Job Location: Salt Lake City, UT 84107
OPEN: Full-Time, M-F, Nights, 12hr Shifts
*Additional $3.00 per hour differential for night hours worked.
Job Summary:
Responsible for lab processes and directions as required by protocols.
Responsibilities:
1. Oversees all lab processes for studies at JBR.
2. Develops tracking systems to ensure protocol required lab procedures are carried out appropriately.
3. Maintains a calendar noting deadlines for shipment of samples. Ensures samples are shipped in a timely fashion.
4. Ensures lab shipments are appropriately documented and records are maintained in the regulatory binder.
5. Ensures lab environment meets protocol requirements, including appropriate temperature requirements. Responds to notifications from ADT if refrigerator or freezer temperatures go out of the appropriate range. Makes necessary changes to protect samples and study drug.
6. Ensures lab is stocked with necessary supplies.
7. Ensures lab is appropriately cleaned at the end of the shift.
8. Ensures refrigerators and freezers are in good working order.
9. Practices good infection control techniques and utilizes protective equipment to minimize exposure to blood and body fluids.
10. Ensures sharps are disposed of in appropriate containers. Obtains new sharps container when container reaches fill line.
11. Follows all JBR SOP’s related to obtaining, processing, shipping and storing lab samples.
Pre-Study Activities:
1. Reads and understands protocol requirements for blood specimens including blood collection, labeling of samples, processing samples, storage of samples and shipping of samples.
2. Assists QC Coordinator with creation blood specimen tracking logs as needed.
3. Has study specific lab manual readily available at all times in the lab.
4. Reads study specific lab manual and is familiar with all study requirements.
5. Ensures storage and tracking system is set up prior to starting the study, with a method of storing the samples in appropriate containers. Primary and back-up samples are stored independent of each other.
Study Activities:
1. Obtains samples per protocol and documents process in source documents.
2. Labels all samples appropriately and tracks on appropriate logs.
3. Processes samples according to protocol. Ensures centrifuge settings are appropriate for processing according to protocol.
4. Performs regular inventory of supplies and orders as necessary to ensure lab supplies are adequate and available at all times for study visits.
5. Stores samples in an upright position in appropriate shipping boxes in the freezer. Stores primary and secondary samples in separate shipping boxes.
6. Ensures freezer/refrigerator temperature is within range for protocol and ensures appropriate logs are kept.
7. Packages and ships samples according to JBR SOP’s and sponsor protocol requirements. Gives a copy of the shipping form, with a copy of the log detailing the contents of the package, to the regulatory department for filing in the study binder.
8. Notifies the appropriate lab that the shipment has been sent, including the protocol number, site number and PI’s name.
9. Notifies the PM or Lab Director when samples are shipped.
10. Ensures notification is received that samples were received in good condition. If no notification is received, follows up with lab to ensure samples were received. Documents follow-up with lab and stores in the regulatory binder.
11. Ships back-up samples only after notification is received from the sponsor that primary samples were received. Does not ship primary and back-up samples in the same shipment or on the same day.
Qualifications:
1. Must be a high school graduate or have GED equivalency.
2. Must be a certified phlebotomist with at least 1 year of drawing experience. IV experience preferred. Must have experience drawing children under the age of 12.
3. Must have good interpersonal skills, demonstrated through interactions with patients, JBR staff, Sponsor representatives, etc.
4. Must be self-motivated, organized and able to perform tasks independently.
5. Must reflect the professional image of the company, upholding the company vision in actions, demeanor, and appearance.
Working Conditions (Clinical Staff)
- Indoor, Clinic environment.
- Essential physical requirements include sitting, typing, standing, walking.
- Lightly active position, occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
- Reporting to work, as scheduled, is essential.
