What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Specialist position at Jbs Mental Health Authority?
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS
The Peer Bridger provides intensive support through a personalized balance of social, recreational, skill teaching and linkage development services for individual match relationships as demonstrated by :
Schedule of individual contacts with each match at least once per week
Initiation of dialogue with matches about skills and supports during individual meetings once per week.
Establishment of linkages that result in the match’s active use of resources in the community.
The Peer Bridger should actively facilitate successful mutual support meetings.
Facilitation of peer / mutual support meetings at the residential location.
Facilitation of peer / mutual support meetings in the community.
Completion of meeting report forms and sign in sheets for each meeting.
The Peer Bridger will perform travel and reporting responsibilities for match relationships.
Activity reports and travel forms
One on one meetings with the Peer Services Coordinator twice per month
Completion of all documentation requirements for provided services, weekly
Participation in mandatory bi-weekly Peer Bridger Team meetings and all scheduled training.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
High School Diploma or GED required.
Possess a Motor vehicle
Valid Alabama driver's license and driving record acceptable to agency automobile insurance carrier for inclusion on agency policy. If using personal vehicle must show and maintain car insurance equal to or in excess of the State of Alabama standards for automobile insurance coverage.
Must attain certification upon hire and maintain certification.
Must demonstrate lived experience with Mental Illness and be a role model to others pursuing recovery
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES :
Have demonstrated experience in using the power and potential of your own recovery story as a tool to educate and inspire peers and non-peer staff
Must be a good role model and be in active recovery for their own mental illness.
Have the ability to convey a message of hope and recovery for people with psychiatric disabilities.
Have demonstrated experience with and knowledge of the Alabama State public mental health system,
Have demonstrated knowledge of advocacy, self-help and empowerment programs for recipients of mental health services
Have the ability to complete basic documentation requirements regarding work activities
