Internship Overview
Interns will gain valuable on-the-job experience in key facets of Food Processing Technologies. They will learn and understand the development, application, and documentation of food processing techniques and/or technology as it relates to various testing activities conducted at the Food Processing Technology & Training Center. Additionally, the training will ensure that interns stay informed about new technology, industry trends, and practices.
Project Assignment
Each intern will be assigned a project to complete by the end of the internship, under the guidance of a project advisor. These projects will have real-world applications and will help interns develop essential skills, including:
- Research skills
- Data acquisition and analysis
- Presentation skills
Interns will practice their presentation skills by reporting their findings at the conclusion of their assignment. By the end of the internship, interns will have gained a real-time, hands-on appreciation for product testing, expected results, and the details of final outcomes.
Additional Opportunities
In addition to focusing on their assigned projects, interns will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in real-world experience by participating in various customer tests in the tech center. These tests give students the opportunity to collaborate with our customers, who are recognized leaders in the food industry.

Pre-Requisites:
The Intern must have the following:
- Working knowledge of spreadsheets, word processing, and MS Outlook software applications
- Strong oral and written communications skills
- Experience with multi-media presentation preparation.
- Ability to write technical reports and general business correspondence.
Work Environment:
Primarily clean laboratory or office conditions, occasionally loud equipment noise and high moisture levels. Exposed to possible hazards including heavy equipment, slippery footing, cold/hot temperatures, etc.
Physical Demands:
Frequent sitting and operating computer. Some lifting of materials, ingredients and substrates and moving of equipment. May be required to lift product for testing and demonstrations of equipment that weigh 50 lbs.
