POSITION SUMMARY:
This is a 7 week position, one week of orientation and 6 weeks of camp from June 30 - August 8, 2025.
The Salary for the 7 week period is based on age, experience, education, and skills but ranges between $3500 and $4000.
Madatz Teen Travel Camp Counselor will supervise and care for campers in "loco parentis." Trip Leaders must work well with co-leaders in a remote setting, away from the JCC.
The ability to foresee and prevent potential hazards and camper issues is crucial to leading a successful trip. Trip Leaders are responsible for preparing final logistics for each assigned trip and to ensure they have all of the equipment necessary to run a trip safely and successfully.
Facilitating a camper's experience to be positive and insightful is also crucial to this position. The successful candidate truly enjoys working with teens and desires to share their love for the outdoors and travel.
We send trips out to the local surrounding area as well as, NJ, Maine, NH, VT, MASS, PA, NY, and Canada. Our trips include backpacking, hiking, camping, rafting, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, climbing, touring and service elements. Our primary youth demographics are ages 12 - 16.

Since its inception in 1927, the Jewish Community Center of Binghamton, NY (JCC) has grown and evolved to become an essential part of the Broome County community as a full-service, not-for-profit, organization. The JCC is dedicated to providing educational, cultural, recreational, and physical fitness programs to enhance the quality of life for everyone from infants to senior citizens. Over the years, the Center has continued to expand its circle of services in order to meet the shifting needs of the community at large. Located by Binghamton University in Vestal, NY, the JCC is housed in a 60,000 square foot facility which houses a natatorium with a 2250 square foot pool, full gymnasium, a small fitness center with men's and women's health club with steam and massage rooms and saunas, a fitness loft with Johnny - G Spinning bikes and Pilates Reformers, full stage auditorium, meeting rooms, a preschool facility with 12 classrooms and 3 infant rooms, 5 rooms which encompass the Kids Connection After School Care program and 4 classrooms which house Universal Pre-Kindergarten programs for the Vestal and Binghamton school districts. In addition, we have 8 acres of land including outdoor tennis and basketball courts, a pavilion, a nature preserve, a soccer and camping field, and 3 state-of-the-art age-appropriate playground facilities.
The JCC's Early Childhood Center and youth department serves over 300 children in daycare programs and over 200 children in summer day camp each year and our Phys Ed department offers programs in everything from youth and adult basketball recreation leagues and camps, a pickleball league, fitness classes and more.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ability to identify and mitigate risk to ensure positive and incident free experiences for participants.
- Be an active member of a small community, including, but not limited to, giving your opinion in an appropriate manner, taking on delegated responsibilities and helping to maintain the physical, emotional, and mental health of each team member.
- Complete and submit all required documentation including, but not limited to, daily logs, accident reports, vehicle logs, petty cash, and credit card expenditures etc. in a timely manner.
- Plan and execute trips. This includes teaching campers the specific hard and soft skills needed for and during each trip, as well as processing the trip at the conclusion of the experience.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a minimum of 21 years of age or older by June 1st.
- Possess a clean, valid U.S. driver's license for the length of the position. The driving record must be approved prior to official acceptance
- Experience working with youth and teens ages 12-16 in an outdoor setting, or a strong desire to gain experience in such an environment
- Able to hike in a variety of terrain types. In good physical health overall is a must
- Ability to work long hours, including evening and late-night programs under high stress
- Ability to be flexible to sudden changes in schedule, staff, and campers
- Present a strong, positive model for kids and fellow staff members
- Possess excellent communication and group facilitation skills
- Feel confident transporting teenagers in a mini van to destinations up to 6 hours away.
