Principal Responsibilities :

The BB Day Camp Portland - Site Director will assist the Day Camp Director in developing, implementing, and operating the BB Day Camp Portland program. This includes (but is not limited to) camper recruitment, program development, hiring and supervising of staff, building a vibrant Jewish community for campers and staff, program budget development and management, and planning for future improvement and growth. The Site Director will plan for day-to-day functions as well as big-picture ideas for Day Camp.

Regular work hours and location :

This is a part-time, hybrid / remote position during the school year, leading up to a Summer-time position. During the school year, regular work hours will be agreed upon with the Day Camps Director. Some days / hours at the Camp Office, Overnight Camp, or other Day Camp locations with regular work hours, may be agreed upon with the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications :

Essential functions :

  • Assist in the implementation of a vibrant day camp program and year-round youth and family engagement activities that fulfill BB Camp's mission as a strong Jewish identity-building and community-building experience for campers, families, and staff.
  • Assist in the implementation of a strategy for recruiting new campers and retaining current campers with specific goals and measurable outcomes that align with BB Camp's mission, vision, and strategic plan to be revisited annually.
  • Assist in the implementation of a strategy for recruiting, hiring, training, and managing all summer day camp and engagement programming staff.
  • Ensure that Jewish values and culture are an integral and visible part of the daily life of camp and engagement programs; oversee the implementation of innovative and traditional programs and activities to meet the needs of all age groups.
  • Responsible for effectively communicating on all issues regarding the program and the care and well-being of the campers and CITs in Camp's care.
  • Assist in the implementation and monitoring of a safety program, crisis management, and emergency procedures specific to the BB Day Camp and program locations and participation.
  • Supervise and give feedback to Assistant Director of Programs, Assistant Director of Community Care, and CIT Coordinator.

Other Duties and responsibilities :

  • Represent BB Camp at community-wide events.
  • Create and maintain cooperative relationships with community partners and competitors.
  • Work cooperatively as a team member and maintain positive working relationships with supervisor and colleagues.
  • Attend, participate in, and complete orientation, training, and educational activities as required.
  • Attend and participate in department and organization meetings as required.
  • Dress appropriately, following appropriate dress and uniform policies and guidelines.
  • Must be able to maintain consistent attendance as per job requirements and the organization's policies.
  • Demonstrate compliance with and ethics surrounding program policies and procedures.
  • Maintain an appropriate degree of confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications and Job Requirements :

  • 18 years or older.
  • Experience in a related field preferred.
  • Experience in camping preferred.
  • Experience in Jewish communal work, preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with several stakeholders (parents, counselors, unit supervisors, medical staff, vendors, camp administration, etc.)
  • Organizational and collaboration skills; manage multiple activities seamlessly and to delegate effectively; meet deadlines; strong attention to detail.
  • Program development, project management, program implementation, and problem-solving experience.
  • Work cooperatively as a team member and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Ability to be flexible and manage change.
  • Familiarity and comfort with Jewish values and traditions.
  • Prioritizes inclusivity within the work that is produced.
  • Additional skills and abilities :

  • Must be able to independently carry out assigned tasks demonstrating good time management and personal motivation.
  • Must be able to prioritize workload and respond appropriately to change.
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing using the English language.
  • Ability to work and interact respectfully, friendly, and in a supportive manner with campers, staff, and parents
  • Additional Requirements :

  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check and, if applicable, fingerprinting.
  • Must be able to pass the pre-employment reference checks.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen.
  • Must be able to provide a copy of their social security card for W-4 documentation.
  • Must be able to provide applicable documentation(s) for I-9 to establish identity and authorization to work in the US.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, personal automobile liability insurance, and an acceptable driving record.
  • Salary : Under $25,000
