Position Description
Title: Early Childhood Assistant Director
Reports to: Early Childhood Education Director
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:30 AM-5:30 PM
Status: Full-time hourly, non-exempt
The Binghamton JCC is seeking an experienced, compassionate, and motivated professional to join our leadership team as Early Childhood Assistant Director. This key role supports the daily operations of our Early Childhood Center, which includes infant, toddler, preschool, and UPK classrooms. The Assistant Director plays a vital role in curriculum development, staff support, regulatory compliance, and parent communication, and must be prepared to fully manage the program in the Director's absence.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Operations
- Serve as the acting Director when needed, ensuring seamless day-to-day operations.
- Oversee classroom schedules, behavior support, and staff coordination.
- Supervise, mentor, and coach educators through regular classroom visits, feedback, and development.
- Maintain compliance with OCFS regulations, safety standards, and JCC policies.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, and team-building.
- Serve as the closing supervisor each day.
Curriculum & Program Development
- Support the implementation of a developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum using Creative Curriculum.
- Guide lesson planning, classroom engagement, and teacher support across all age levels.
- Encourage continuous growth and reflective practice among staff.
Family & Community Engagement
- Build strong, trusting relationships with families and serve as a point of contact for questions or concerns.
- Respond promptly and professionally to messages via digital platforms and in person.
- Represent the Early Childhood Center at JCC events such as the Purim Carnival, Open Houses, and more.
Administrative Duties
- Manage logistical needs such as scheduling, staffing coverage, and classroom supply coordination.
- Support outreach and communication with prospective and current families.
- Collaborate with the Director on strategic planning and program improvement goals.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field (Bachelor's preferred).
- Minimum 3 years of experience in early childhood education, with at least 1 year in a leadership role.
- Strong working knowledge of OCFS regulations and licensing compliance.
- Ability to lead with professionalism, empathy, and accountability.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, child-centered environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and open to learning new systems.
Compensation & Benefits
- $19-$19.50/hour
