What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguards (Year-round; Part-time) position at JCC of Central New Jersey?
The JCC of Central NJ is a membership based, non-profit agency which offers educational, recreational, fitness & wellness, cultural and communal programs and activities for all stages of life.
Summary of Position:
The JCC is looking for a focused and committed individual who loves the water and enjoys working with people of all ages and abilities to serve as a Lifeguard. The programs serve children and adults of all ages. This is a part-time, overtime non-exempt position supervised by the Aquatics Director. Morning and early day shift availability preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain the health and safety of participants through:
o Use of continual, proper surveillance techniques, including all areas of responsibility (indoor pool, outdoor pools, deck area)
o Use of effective Preventive Lifeguarding as an integral part of this surveillance
o Equal enforcement and personal practice of pool rules and regulations
- Perform appropriate rescues, including administering first aid/CPR as needed
- Follow JCC guidelines for opening and closing pools
- Present oneself in an appropriate and professional manner at all times, including swimsuit, whistle, JCC Lifeguard T-shirt, rescue tube, and shorts
- Represent and promote the JCC in a positive manner at all times
- Test the water in the pool every two hours
- Restore equipment to their proper locations as needed
- Perform routine maintenance tasks as needed, such as cleaning stainless steel, sweeping the deck and the pool, and other tasks needed to maintain a clean and healthy environment
- Complete all required records and reports, such as accident reports, chemical logs, and user logs on a regular basis
- Attend and participate in quarterly In-Service training meetings
- Correct and immediately report any unsafe conditions or hazards in the pool area to the Aquatics Director
Qualifications and Skills:
- American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification
- Must be reliable and be ready on the lifeguard stand by the start of their shift
- Ability to enforce pool rules and regulations
Physical Demands:
- Work with pool chemicals; safe use training provided
- Spend prolonged amount of time in the pool
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds
