We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Inclusion Counselor to join our summer camp team. This role focuses on working with children with special needs, ensuring they have an inclusive, engaging, and fun summer camp experience. The Inclusion Counselor will create a positive environment that supports each child's social and emotional growth, using individualized behavior plans such as sticker charts and reward systems to encourage participation and reinforce positive behaviors. Essential Duties And Key Responsibilities
- Individualized Support: Work directly with children who have special needs, creating personalized behavior and engagement plans tailored to each child's strengths and needs.
- Behavior Management: Implement and adapt behavior strategies, including sticker charts, reward systems, and other positive reinforcement tools, to encourage active participation and support each child's unique goals.
- Redirection and Encouragement: Proactively redirect children as needed, using supportive techniques to help them reengage in activities and stay positively focused.
- Promote Inclusion: Facilitate each child's participation in camp activities alongside their peers, adapting approaches to ensure they feel included and valued within their group. Model appropriate behavior to staff and campers.
- Collaboration: Communicate regularly with other camp staff, providing updates on the child's progress and working as a team to address any concerns.
- Documentation: Maintain daily notes on each child's experiences, successes, and areas for growth, tracking progress and adjusting as needed.
- Experience: Prior experience working with children with special needs, particularly in a summer camp or educational setting.
- Skills: an understanding of behavior management and reinforcement strategies, with a patient and compassionate approach to individual needs.
- Knowledge and Education - Minimum Required or Preferred: At least 18 years of age, GED / High School Diploma
- Degree or coursework in special education, psychology, social work, or a related field is preferred.
