Job Summary:
The Supervisor of Campus Nursing serves as a member of clinical leadership and supports efforts to achieve JCCA’s campus mission to provide quality medical and therapeutic services to its residents. They will establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional and psychological support to residents and families. The Supervisor of Campus Nursing holds a propensity to provide leadership and team-building with an ability to problem-solve under pressure. The Supervisor of Campus Nursing maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information, responding to requests, and participating in team problem-solving methods. They will support psychiatric and mental health services in their efforts to provide quality care. They will assist in ensuring quality healthcare service delivery to promote resident’s independence by establishing patient care goals, teaching, and counseling. They work in partnership with senior clinical leadership to monitor the residents’ health records, medication administration records and required areas of compliance and to ensure the organizational compliance with State/Federal laws.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Supervise health center personnel and assign duties to ensure adequate delivery of medical support services.
- Direct, all health center staff by communicating job expectations, coaching and counseling and providing regular performance reviews; implements corrective action plans as needed
- Participate in hiring, onboarding and orienting healthcare staff.
- Conducts frequent unit meetings/huddles to communicate information to all levels of staff.
- Communicate and coordinate with clinical team, foster and biological family/guardian about all medical conditions, appointments and/or treatments.
- Collaborate with providers and other multidisciplinary professional staff to implement resident’s care.
- Participate in morning rounds, case reviews, FTCs and other multi-disciplinary meetings as appropriate.
- Provide formal and informal training for clinical teams, milieu staff, foster and biological parents on specific health care needs of residents including appropriate health practices and administration of medications.
- Participate in community visits (e.g. Emergency Room, hospitalizations, community specialty appointments, home visits) on as needed basis.
- Will on occasion deliver direct nursing care of assigned individuals according to individual plan of care and in keeping with scope of practice and agency policies and procedures.
- Ensure procedures and protocols are followed for medication distribution and ensure accurate and up-to-date Medication Administration Records.
- Ensure full compliance with internal and external regulatory requirements; monitors the quality of documentation via record reviews
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
- NYS Registered Nurse License
- Minimum five (5) years of nursing experience with pediatric population
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Minimum three (3) years of supervisory experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong people and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with very diverse groups of clients and staff
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, and requests simultaneously
- Demonstrated therapeutic and crisis intervention skills; ability to de-escalate situations with calmness, professionalism, sensitivity, and within ethical boundaries
- An understanding of the impacts of institutional and structural racism on the child welfare system and in disadvantaged communities
- Proficient with MS Office with the ability to learn new technology platforms;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate and interact effectively at all levels of the organization;
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field
- Bilingual (Spanish)
- NYS Driver’s License
- Prior experience with pediatric trauma informed care
