What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Recreation position at JCCA?
JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Recreation ensures that therapeutic recreation is viable for all children regardless of their physical, emotional or mental limitations. In accordance with Article I 29 and Families First, the recreation program will complement the treatment goals of all the youth and work in conjunction with other services on campus including but not limited to Clinical Services, LEAP, Child Care, Psychology, Volunteer Services, Medical the Mount Pleasant Cottage and Edenwald Schools, and Safety.
ESSENTIAL TASKS:
- Responsibilities: Understands JCCA Campus Services’ Mission and Core Values and incorporates values into daily practice.
- Continually strive to improve the organization's systems and/or services.
- Make decisions as a team to fulfill our mission and share recognition.
- Treat every resident, family member, and co-worker with dignity, respect, and courtesy.
- Provide group and individual supervision for recreation staff members. Engage in on-going continuing education opportunities consistent with professional standards.
- To provide annual and probationary performance evaluations for Recreation staff.
- Assist in the coordination and implementation of “Seasonal Activity Calendars” for school vacations, special events, sporting programs, weekend and holiday activities and the therapeutic arts.
- Develop and maintain all recreation budgets, monitor expenditures, approve purchases, manage donations (monetary and in-kind) and recreation grant awards as well as maintain financial reports.
- Conduct team meetings to disseminate information and receive feedback from staff.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate and schedule facility-wide events and outside activities.
- Promote and support evidence-based practices, child focused and family-centered approaches, and trauma-informed care campus wide.
- Ensure therapeutic recreation staff adhere to established clinical documentation standards in a timely fashion.
- Ensure adequate and functional staffing year-round, including weekends and holiday coverage.
- Participate in the interview process, selecting, hiring and orienting new staff members.
- Other related duties that may become necessary or as directed
QUALIFCATIONS:
- Bachelor degree required in therapeutic recration or closely related field; Master's degree preferred; Certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist
- Minimum of three (3) years professional experience in a Residential Treatment Center or similar setting working with youth with developmental disabilities and/or complex behavioral health needs
- Supervisory experience in Therapeutic Recreation or Clinical with children with complex behavioral health needs
