JCW is partnered with a leading real estate investment firm seeking an experienced and highly motivated Vice President of Tax to join their team. This key leadership role will be responsible for overseeing all tax-related activities within the organization, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, and optimizing tax strategies for their real estate investment trust (REIT) structure. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in real estate tax, with at least 10 years of experience focused on real estate/REIT clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the tax function for the firm, including managing all aspects of tax compliance, tax reporting, and tax planning.
- Develop and implement tax strategies to optimize the firm’s tax position, including managing the tax implications of real estate transactions, REIT compliance, and other strategic initiatives.
- Oversee the preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax returns for the firm and its affiliated entities.
- Ensure compliance with REIT-specific tax requirements and regulations, including maintaining compliance with REIT income and asset tests.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including finance, legal, and investment teams, to provide tax advice and support on transactions, investments, and other business activities.
- Manage relationships with external tax advisors, auditors, and regulatory authorities.
- Stay current on changes in tax laws and regulations affecting the real estate industry and REITs, and communicate these changes to senior management.
- Lead and mentor a team of tax professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or JD preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive tax experience, with a strong focus on real estate and REIT clients.
- Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations, particularly as they relate to real estate investments and REITs.
- Proven experience in managing tax compliance, planning, and reporting for a complex organization.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with a track record of developing and mentoring tax professionals.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and senior management.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.
