What are the responsibilities and job description for the Distribution Center Supervisor position at JD Finish Line?
** 2nd shift - Monday - Friday 3:30 pm - 12:00 am**
This position is responsible for leading and coaching hourly associates, clerks, and leads throughout the distribution center to drive productivity and attain goals in accuracy, safety, and housekeeping. This individual should effectively exhibit JD Finish Line’s core values of Customer, People, Winning, Community, and Financial Responsibility in everything they do by performing the following main duties:
- Oversees assignments and utilizes effective communication to direct associates ensuring work is completed in a prioritized and in a timely manner.
- Holds accountability for assigned metrics.
- Creates and communicates a daily staffing plan to attain production.
- Assesses team success through evaluation, rewarding employees, correcting performance, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
- Creates assignments in the labor management tool and inputs a variety of data into systems.
- Assists leadership in identifying opportunities for process improvement.
- Troubleshoots any areas of opportunity during the shift.
- Positively engages regularly with employees to create an inclusive and productive environment while ensuring that distribution center, loss prevention, and human resources company standards are met and maintained.
- Makes independent, sound decisions that support the business initiatives and goals
- Responsible for area upkeep to provide a clean, safe and organized work environment.
- Collaborates cross-functionally with other supervisors and departments in the company.
- Responsible for interviewing and hiring hourly associates.
- Trains and develops associates to achieve efficiency.
- Develops team through mentorship and foster internal growth.
- Supports and fosters distribution center(s) diverse culture and employee engagement initiatives.
- Maintains a structured training program and provide training on standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Flexibility with work schedules to meet business needs; critical weekends and holidays may be included.
- Flexibility to engage cross-functionally on a rotational basis in all areas of the distribution center and varying shifts.
- Additional tasks and projects as required.
Required Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or 1 – 2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred experience in Manhattan Warehouse Management System (WMS) as well as 3 – 5 years leadership experience with direct-report responsibility within the distribution industry or comparable role. Internal JD Finish Line experience strongly preferred.
Required Computer and/or Technical Skills
Should have basic to intermediate knowledge and abilities with Microsoft Office or Google Suite, and email system. Ability to learn and apply Finish Line warehouse management system, warehouse control system, labor management software, and payroll software applications.

- Stand for up to 8 hours at a time periodically if overtime is called.
- Must be able to push or pull pallets on a hand pallet jack weighing up to 750lb
- Punctuality and regular attendance consistent with the company’s policies are required for this position.
- Average work week is 40-50 hours, which can vary depending on business need.
Work Environment
Supervisors are required to work in an industrial setting with moderate noise levels. Temperature ranges from 50 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter to 90 degrees Fahrenheit during summer months. Will be asked to unload/load trailers where the temperature will be at or near outside temperature. Some dust will be in and around work area. Some work areas are elevated up to 40 feet with guardrails. There will be numerous types of moving machinery including forklifts, conveyor systems, and trailers in and out of doors.
