Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled engineer to support compliance with Local Law 97 (LL97) and Local Law 87 (LL87), and other energy projects (Net Zero, LEED, etc) in New York City. This role involves ensuring building systems operate efficiently, optimizing energy performance, and aligning with sustainability regulations. The ideal candidate will have experience in HVAC systems, building automation, energy audits, and commissioning processes.
Responsibilities:
- Perform retro-commissioning (RCx) of existing buildings to identify and correct inefficiencies in HVAC, lighting, and building controls.
- Conduct commissioning (Cx) of new and renovated buildings to ensure systems function per design intent and efficiency targets.
- Lead energy audits and prepare ASHRAE Level I & II reports to meet LL87 Energy Efficiency Report (EER) requirements.
- Develop energy conservation measures (ECMs) and recommend cost-effective efficiency improvements.
- Ensure buildings comply with carbon emissions caps under LL97, recommending operational changes or upgrades as needed.
- Collaborate with building owners, property managers, and design teams to implement best practices for sustainability.
- Utilize Building Management Systems (BMS) and data analytics to monitor and optimize energy performance.
- Prepare and submit compliance documentation for NYC Department of Buildings (DOB).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Management, or a related field.
- 3 years of experience in commissioning, retro-commissioning, or energy consulting.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, lighting, controls, and mechanical systems in commercial and residential buildings.
- Familiarity with LL87, LL97, ASHRAE standards, and NYSERDA energy programs.
- Proficiency in energy modeling software (e.g., eQuest, EnergyPlus) and BMS platforms.
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Commissioning Authority (CxA), or LEED accreditation is a plus.
- Excellent communication and project management skills.
