What are the responsibilities and job description for the Second Shift Turning Lead position at JDM Machining, Inc.?
Responsible for operation and oversight of Second Shift staff. Produces quality machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; setting up and operating manual machines; maintaining quality & safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.
ESSENTIALS JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Oversee the quality of parts produced in the Second Shift Turning department.
· Troubleshoot and optimize new production programs to ensure efficient overall production.
· Be proactively aware of workload and assist in the planning of tooling requirements for future jobs, ensuring minimal downtime.
· Work seamlessly with all other areas of the shop and be a focal point for advice on Second Shift Turning.
· Plan machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications and machining parameters.
· Basic understanding of geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
· Program and set-up lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points: setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches: calculating requirements, including basic math and geometry.
· Verify set-up and first part before operator begins the project.
· Verify settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to international standards.
· Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
· Maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
· Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications.
· Meet with the COO, Project Managers and fellow Leads twice weekly or as needed to discuss tooling design, problems, and new tool schedule.
· Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with co-workers, customers, clients, and management.
· Encourage maximum efficiency and productivity of workers, as well as efficient utilization of equipment and facilities.
· Assist in the implementation and continued maintenance of Quality Control along with the most current standards for AS9100 and ISO 9001.
· Implement and maintain LEAN practices to reduce waste and cost.
· Continue to learn and use the tools to identify and assist with continuous improvement.
· Ensure that safe work practices are followed and adhered to.
· Support the company wide quality effort through the maintenance of a low reject rate and low scrap.
· Maintain a clean, organized safe and healthy work environment, and maintain all equipment, to like new appearance, according to maintenance plans and established standards and procedures.
· Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and confidential information.
· Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Ability to change and adapt work behaviors based on a constantly changing schedule.
Associate degree (A. A.) from two-year college or technical school; or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as portability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Ability to operate a forklift to move, load and unload pallets and material.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
