What are the responsibilities and job description for the Charge Nurse RN MS 7p-7a position at Jeff Davis Hospital?
- Ensures that quality, safe care is given to each patient. Uses patient rounds and CQI reports to determine quality care is being given. Acts as a liaison between patient, physician, and family.
Acts as a liaison between physician and nursing personnel. Effectiveness is evidenced when the physician’s orders are carried out promptly and accurately, communications are clear as documented.
In conjunction with Nurse Manager, determines staffing needs, prepares patient assignments and basis these assignments on acuity levels, workload, and competency/skill level of available staff. Places staff “on call” or “called off” in the nursing areas as needed. Adjusts nursing staff during shift to accommodate the fluctuating patient load.
Provides comprehensive information of shift activity to incoming staff and nurse managers through written and/or oral reports to ensure continuity of care.
Reviews, investigates, and follows up on complaints, grievances or emergencies with patients, families, staff and physicians as warranted in conjunction with Nurse Manager.
Floats to all nursing areas as needed and maintains master keys as outlined in policy.
Attends scheduled meetings and keeps staff updated on information obtained at the meeting.
Obtains medication from pharmacy when the pharmacy is closed and follows established policy and procedure in the procurement of the same.
Ensures that the outside doors are secured after hours and logs the door checks in the appropriate areas.
Oversees clinical and non-clinical departments after hours, holiday and weekends and times when the department manager is not present during emergency situations and when assistance is needed.
Qualifications:
- Associates Degree in Nursing.
- Current Georgia RN licensure.
- Current CPR, ACLS and PALS certification within 1 year of hire.
- Six months to one-year experience or training; preferred.
- The equivalent combination of education and experience.
