About the Job
We are hiring Special Education Teachers for various roles across Jefferson County schools:
- SSN (Significant Support Needs)
- Teach students with intellectual disabilities or multiple disabilities towards extended evidence outcomes.
- ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder)
- Serve students with significant deficits in functional communication, social skills, and restrictive interests or repetitive behaviors.
- AN (Affective Needs)
- Provide programming for students with significant social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs.
- Learning Specialist
- Support students on an IEP, generally those with mild/moderate needs.
Responsibilities
Summary
Develop, implement, and support individualized practices for achieving learning outcomes for students with communication, cognitive, physical, and/or social/behavioral needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and implement specialized instruction in one-on-one, small group, and large classroom settings.
- Collaborate with general educators to plan and modify curriculum, team teach, and communicate student abilities and needs.
- Develop, implement, and review behavioral plans for designated students.
- Work with multidisciplinary teams to conduct IEP and referral meetings, conferences, and develop a multidisciplinary approach to student education.
- Maintain ongoing communication with regular educators, school staff, students, and parents.
- Create a safe, supportive, and understanding environment for disabled students.
Qualifications
Hold a valid Colorado teaching license with Special Education Generalist endorsement.
If teacher is the teacher of record for a specific content area, they must meet content-area qualification, which could include the appropriate content endorsement, degree in the content area, Colorado State Board of Education-approved content exam, or 36 credit hours as determined by the district.
