What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dispatcher, Emergency Services - Sub (Pool) position at Jeffco Public Schools?
SUMMARY: Point of contact for requests for safety and security assistance for District employees, public safety service providers, and the public. Monitor District alarm systems. Follow procedures to notify District safety and security personnel of situations, including providing radio communication, maintaining internal log and information regarding response plans and contacts, and acting as a liaison between sites and emergency personnel. Dispatchers must work on rotating shifts that assure 24 hour per day, 7 day per week coverage, including weekends and all holidays. Dispatchers are subject to being called in on very short notice to assist in emergencies or to cover a shift in the event of an illness.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Monitor access to District facilities by responding to telephone notification from personnel entering/exiting District facilities after hours.
Monitor and coordinate the appropriate response to fire, security, and HVAC alarms.
Use the two-way radio to exchange information with and ensure safety of field units.
Complete written reports, including activity logs and site mechanical problem reports.
Respond to telephone inquiries from employees, public safety service providers, and the public regarding District situations, including those of an urgent and/or emergency nature.
Request assistance from other agencies, including public safety responders.
Update response protocol and contact information in files.
Maintain records of site fire drills and notify the appropriate districts regarding fire drills.
Serve as dispatcher and emergency contact person for Transportation Department during weekends and after-hours during weekdays.
Support facilities personnel after hours and on weekends by making emergency call-outs and notifications.
Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High school diploma/GED required. Course work in areas of public safety, communications, and/or computer technology/operations highly desirable.
EXPERIENCE: 0-2 years experience in computer operation, typing, and dispatching.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT: Excellent verbal and written communication skills and problem solving skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks and technical equipment under stressful situations. Strong commitment to being a constructive team player. Operating knowledge of and some experience with microcomputers. Must pass background investigation prior to hire.

SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY: This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Acts as resource for District administrators and staff and emergency personnel during mechanical problems and emergency situations.

Requires some computer knowledge to identify malfunctioning alarm systems and requires judgment and decision making skills to make proper notifications when systems are malfunctioning. Work is guided by the School Board policies and District and department policies and procedures. Errors in decision making could result in failing to respond or an inappropriate response, either of which could lead to possible injury or loss of life and/or property. Supervisor is involved in moderate and major decisions.
