ABOUT THE SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT


The Jeffco Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) department provides Jeffco students with access to healthy and nutritious meals to support their learning. Each year, the FNS team serves approximately 4.5 million lunch meals, 1 million breakfast meals, and generates about $5.5 million in a la carte sales. The FNS team consists of over 400 employees who serve our students in more than 140 full-service kitchens and a central warehouse. FNS administers many programs, including the National School Lunch and Breakfast programs, Afterschool Snacks, Fresh Fruit and Vegetable programs and Summer Food Service Programs. PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENT


The successful new hire or rehired candidate will be responsible to complete and incur the fingerprinting and processing fee of $54.50 through an appropriate fingerprinting vendor and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, within 48 hours of offer acceptance.

RESPONSIBILITIES


SUMMARY Ensure efficient operation of medium-scale child nutrition program within applicable Federal, State, and local guidelines at a school.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

Prepare food and ensure food quality and safety.

Manage the production and service of quality food product; insure correct portion control and food safety; and supervise preparation and service of food to customers.

Manage the proper operation/care of equipment to comply with State Health Department guidelines.

Maintain accurate financial records of food services and the free/reduced lunch program for both locations. Maintain organization of office, desk, and files. Make bank deposits and complete financial reports.

Forecast food and supply requirements. Place orders as directed by the Food and Nutrition Services Department.

Provide guidance, training, and support to food service workers, assisting with skill development and performance feedback.

Develop daily production plans and complete menu production worksheets.

Maintain strong working relationships with principals, students, faculty, community, and personnel.

Communicate with FNS Supervisor and Central Office via telephone and e-mail. Read updates, and resource information on Food and Nutrition web page located on District intranet.

Manage plan for student and manager choice menus within specified meal requirements. Plan menu items in addition to the standard District menu to meet the needs of students.

Prepare any reports associated with FFVP, SAE, and the after-school snack program (if applicable).

Mentor and develop lead worker to act as emergency back-up in manager's absence.

Market the food service program by creating a welcoming environment through use of posters, letters to parents, holiday decorations, music, contests, surveys, articles in the school and FNS newsletters, attendance of faculty meetings, and by developing strong rapport with the customers.

Write and post daily rotating work schedules and assign duties to employees. Monitor progress of duties and make adjustments as needed to employees' assigned work hours.

Conduct a physical inventory of food supplies and USDA donated commodities and submit completed report by deadline.

Perform other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE: Requires minimum of 6 months to 2 years' experience in food service kitchen management, including experience using food service software. One year of experience credit is given to individuals who have 2 or more years of hourly worker kitchen experience; have completed basic on-the-job hourly worker training and manager training classes; and at least 6 months sub managing experience. One year experience credit is given to individuals who have 2 or more years of outside commercial food preparation experience such as full-service or fast food restaurant management, airline or healthcare industry food production supervision. Strong organizational, school food service marketing, POS computer and personnel management experience is desirable.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High school diploma/GED required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS: Requirements at time of hire are completion of onboarding and training, completion of manager training classes, completion of Certified Food Protection Manager per Colorado State Health Code within 90 days of hire, and valid Colorado Driver's License and auto insurance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of small to medium-scale school food service management program including food prep/ordering, food service software; proficient use of e-mail, Jeffco intranet and Food and Nutrition Services internal page; basic computer skill; and knowledge of meal requirements, safety and sanitation regulations (HACCP). Must possess strong communication, organizational and management skills. Must also possess basic math, cash handling, ability to read, understand profit and loss statements. Must have demonstrated ability to accurately complete menu production worksheets. Must demonstrate the ability to control food cost by following department tools and guidelines. Operating knowledge of commercial food production equipment is required (mixer, oven, range, slicer, dishwasher, scales, thermometer, steam table, microwave, fryer) at time of hire.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The job requires standing for extended periods and frequent walking within the kitchen and serving areas. Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach to retrieve supplies and equipment and perform cleaning duties. Lifting and carrying heavy objects up to 50 pounds. Repetitive motions, including chopping, stirring, and dishwashing. Requires manual dexterity for handling kitchen tools and operating food preparation equipment safely.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS: Strong attention to detail to ensure food safety and proper portioning. Able to follow recipes and instructions precisely. Effective time management and the ability to work efficiently under strict schedules. Strong teamwork and communication skills to coordinate with coworkers and supervisors in a busy setting. Ability to remain calm and professional while interacting with students, staff, and other kitchen personnel.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is primarily performed in a school kitchen located in either an elementary or secondary school. The work environment can be hot & humid due to ovens, stovetops, and dishwashers running simultaneously. Potential risks include cuts from knives and slicers, burns from hot equipment, slipping on wet floors, and injury lifting supplies. Frequent exposure to cleaning chemicals and common food allergens. Must adhere to all posted safety notices and follow proper procedures and use of provided PPE.
