ABOUT THE SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT


Parmalee Elementary is a small neighborhood school with approximately 310 students located in Indian Hills, Colorado. Parmalee is also the gifted center for the mountain articulation area. The Parmalee staff is known for developing positive relationships with students. We provide students with a rigorous academic program, while ensuring students understand the relevance of what they learn. Teachers who work at Parmalee agree to use specific instructional resources such as Every Child a Writer, Everyday Math, and Orton Gillingham. Training is provided to teachers on the instructional resources to ensure systemic instructional practices are in place in every classroom. Parmalee integrates technology into daily instruction with students accessing and utilizing technology using 1:1 Chromebooks. Our school also offers a robust programming in art, music, PE and library/technology. Students at Parmalee are respectful and kind. The staff and students adhere to the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports which are clearly defined and monitored. The Parmalee staff works in close partnership with our PTA to provide support for student learning and continuously enhance the positive community that has been established at our school.

Often training occurs over the summer prior to the school year. The staff works off of shared agreements to ensure that all students have access to systemic and systematic instruction.

ABOUT THE JOB


This applicant will need to be a strong collaborator with both the traditional education 4th grade teacher as well as the other GT teachers in the building.

RESPONSIBILITIES


SUMMARY Responsible for the instruction of gifted learners. Ability to develop and/or implement curriculum for higher-level thinking. The teacher will utilize evidence-based data, best practices and frequent monitoring for any programming adjustments. The teacher must hold a deep understanding and commitment to the gifted learners in their classroom, in the community and support district gifted education initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Collect and analyze student achievement data to use in data driven instruction. Maintain thorough, effective and manageable record-keeping system. Collect and analyze data to guide building and G/T School Improvement goals.

Collaborate with other service providers to plan and implement instruction for students with special needs through a responsive instructional model.

Use a variety of teaching methods, resources, and organizational arrangements to present subject matter to students. Design instruction based on formal and informal assessments of student abilities and needs. Differentiate instruction to meet student needs by teaching higher-level thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills and identifying and sharing learning resources that support higher level thinking skills in all areas.

Establish a climate for learning through positive classroom management techniques. Utilize procedures to communicate clear behavioral expectations.

Structure the work of volunteers and para-educators so that they are able to work productively and independently during the instructional period.

Establish consistent, positive on-going communications with parents.

Model and facilitate goal-setting, time-management, cooperative, and independent learning skills.

Structure student use of available technology to enhance learning, increase productivity, and promote creativity.

Use appropriate assessment information in instructional planning, implementation, and evaluation of student learning, including development of the Advanced Learning Plan (ALP). Use rubrics, scoring guides, and/or samples of student work to communicate the critical attributes of advanced student performance and to provide documentation of defensible and consistent grading practices.

Participate in collaborative efforts to improve the effectiveness of school staff.

Participate in change; cooperate in implementation of school-wide goals.

Participate in professional growth opportunities to enhance instruction.

Access continuing professional development to address specific needs of the gifted and talented population. Collaborate in the facilitation of professional development for classroom teachers.

Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold a valid Colorado Teaching License. Must meet elementary education qualification, which could include an endorsement, degree in the content area, or Colorado State Board of Education approved content exam. Must possess or be willing to obtain within the next 2 years an advanced degree or endorsement in gifted education.

EXPERIENCE: Experience teaching gifted students. Recent, successful teaching experience in subject area and/or grade level.

REQUIREMENTS: Demonstrate knowledge, understanding, and application of appropriate teaching techniques to gifted programming for gifted learners including English Language Learners, Twice-Exceptional, and students with diverse cultural/ethnic/socio-economic backgrounds in order to meet the instructional and social-emotional needs of gifted students. Understand and possess the ability to manage the unique social/emotional needs of gifted students. Demonstrate the ability to utilize effective written and oral communication skills. Provide evidence of ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative relationships with school personnel, students, and parents and to function as a team member. Demonstrate an understanding and working knowledge of curriculum and instructional alignment (CAP) including: content standards, assessment, skills, and instructional strategies
