ABOUT THE JOB
As an option in Jeffco?s portfolio of schools, the Open School is seeking staff members who are passionate about working in partnership with students, parents, and the wider community to provide an environment that fosters the development of the whole person; personally by developing a strong sense of self, socially by developing and maintaining healthy relationships, and intellectually by learning to think and apply knowledge. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A current Secondary Colorado Teacher?s license with an endorsement in Mathematics
- Experience with/appreciation for open/choice/alternative education

- Competence, or an interest in becoming competent in designing and leading extended interdisciplinary field experiences for students to augment in-class experiences
- Counsel and advise students as a group and as individuals
- Communicate effectively with parents, students, and teachers concerning student progress
- Assist students with the portfolio process of assessment and self-evaluation
- Work with other teachers and students to develop consistent expectations and boundaries for students
- Advise students through the self-directed learning process
- Work comfortably with an advising group by providing an energetic and stimulating environment
- Support/mentor/guide advisees to meet the Open School Graduation Expectations
- Plan and execute extended travel opportunities for the advising group
- Willingness to lead (or learn how to lead), along with the Walkabout team, the annual Wilderness Backpacking for new advisees and student leaders in the advising group
- Utilize authentic performance assessments and embrace experiential learning in the classroom and community; facilitate curriculum ?outside? the classroom
- Enjoy flexibility in curriculum creation that provides authentic, hands-on experiences, while also attending to state academic standards
- Be enthusiastic and able to engage a diverse group of learners
- Demonstrate competence, or an interest in becoming competent in designing and leading extended interdisciplinary extended field experiences for students to augment in-class experiences
A successful applicant will be willing to:
- Become qualified to drive students in district SUV or small activity bus vehicles (training provided)
- Take students on overnight outdoor experiences
- Collaborate with colleagues and students to create extended travel experiences
- Create curriculum that connects to and enhances student travel experiences
- Participate in the school improvement processes including work with the Jefferson County Public School District and state accreditation processes, in addition to actively participating on a variety of school-wide committees
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents
- Work with all staff members in an enthusiastic, positive, and flexible manner

RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Orient students to their coursework and communicate course requirements.
- Employ asynchronous and synchronous tools to supplement course content.
- Create and deliver live and recorded instructional sessions.
- Maintain regular office hours to provide students or parents one-on-one and small group support.
- Augment course content in the form of remediation, modification, and enrichment.
- Partner with special education staff to implement student's IEPs, ALPs and 504s.
- Set deadlines for student work and grant extensions.
- Attend face-to-face meetings with students and parent/guardian, as scheduled.
- Grade student work, enter grades into an online gradebook, and provide course grade.
- Communicate with parents as needed.
- Collaborate with other instructional staff.
- Administer school-wide assessments including CSAP, ACT, and Acuity.
- Conduct student/parent/teacher conferences.
- Attend (virtual and physical) and actively participate in all required staff meetings and professional development.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE Experience with curriculum, assessment, staff development, and online learning. Experience with effective use of technology with teachers and/or students supporting educational technology initiatives. Awareness, understanding, and application of a guaranteed and viable curriculum. Previous experience or current thinking about culturally responsive teaching that relates to achievement issues for all students. Demonstrated success using technology to ensure technological literate students.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING Valid Colorado teaching license or certificate. Advanced degree or comparable experience in content area.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT Must possess demonstrated skills in classroom and online implementation of best practices in instructional strategies, demonstrated success in working with learners, proficiency with Blackboard, and experience with leading online learning. Demonstrated leadership skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of
standard District technology, ability to effectively and efficiently use for a variety of purposes, and demonstrated success in using technology and information literacy in instruction. Willingness to learn new technology. Ability to help others make sense of and adjust to change. Must be flexible and have capacity for dealing with ambiguity. Willingness to work a flexible schedule. Must be able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability in interpreting assessment data collected from a variety of sources.
