Description

OPC Therapist

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for providing direct in-home interventions to seriously mentally ill consumers who have been outpatient committed

Responsible for assessing and implementing treatment programs for seriously mentally ill consumers.

Provide direct crisis intervention, mental health consultation, and individual and family therapy services.

Work closely with the Probate Court Judge, JBS Medical Director, local mental health centers, private physicians, and other community agencies to help coordinate the consumer's outpatient commitment.

Educate consumers' families about outpatient commitments and mental illness, and provide appropriate community referrals.

Prepare and submit accurate documentation and statistics in debriefing for weekly and monthly reports and meetings.

Demonstrates proficiency and timeliness in completion/review of EMR entries

Performs special projects, as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Bachelors degree in social work, psychology or other human service field. Experience working with individuals with serious mental illness, case management or outreach preferred. Minimum of one (1) year experience in social services/human services field required.

 

Valid Alabama driver's license and a suitable automobile to permit the required travel. Must be insurable and maintain insurability under JBS's automobile insurance carrier's standards. Must show and maintain car insurance equal to or in excess of the State of Alabama standards for automobile insurance coverage.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of seriously mentally ill Target Population definitions.

Ability to work autonomously.

Knowledge of Probate Court functions and procedures in the implementation of commitment for the mentally disabled.

Knowledge of the specific requirements for involuntary commitment.

Knowledge of the community and available community resources for those who do not meet involuntary commitment criteria or who can be cared for adequately in the community.

Considerable knowledge of the special needs and behavioral characteristics of the seriously mentally dysfunctioning adult population (target population).

Extensive knowledge of the community and available community resources.

Knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the human services provider agencies in the catchment area.

Knowledge of the legal and ethical issues relative to confidentiality of client records and the ability to interpret and apply them within the scope of the case management responsibilities.

Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively with a multi-disciplinary team.

Considerable knowledge of casework principles and methods related to case management.

Working knowledge of interviewing techniques and principles.

Ability and willingness to document activities and maintain records.

Skills in interpersonal relationships and dynamics.

Considerable written and expressive communication skills.

Acquainted with the use and side effects of psychotropic medications.

If assigned responsibility by supervisor - ability and willingness to work in area shelters boarding homes or foster homes as well as other sites in which the seriously mentally handicapped population may be resident.

Demonstrable ability to work independently and to make sound judgements regarding client care.
