The Director of Philanthropy will be responsible for developing and managing a comprehensive fund development plan that ensures a diverse and sustainable funding base for the organization. This position has primary responsibility for leading large-scale fundraising initiatives for the organization, including major giving, capital, annual, and planned giving campaigns and events. The Director of Philanthropy will be expected to build positive relationships with donors, board members, fund development committee members, staff, and volunteers and be an ambassador for the organization and its mission. This position is responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors. The position will supervise the Grants Manager, Senior Coordinator of Donor Engagement, and Philanthropy Specialist.

Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:
  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in professional corporate and individual fundraising, experience with major giving cultivation efforts preferred.
  • Possess the skills to work with and motivate staff, board members and other volunteers
  • Requires a “self-starter” and goal driven individual with a positive attitude who shows concern for people and community, demonstrates presence, self-confidence and an outgoing personality to initiate donor visits and fundraising calls
  • Strong conceptual as well as analytical skills
  • Superior oral & written communication skills with demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively
  • Ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships
  • Must use discretion with donor information
  • Strong management/supervisory and problem-solving skills, including strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task; ability to prioritize deadlines and manage workflow efficiently
  • Experience working with senior level managers and members of Board of Directors
Essential Duties:
  • Develop and monitor a strategic fund development plan which supports the Jefferson Center Strategic Plan, working in collaboration with the Executive team members and members of the Center’s Fund Development Board Committee.
  • Develop strategies, manage activities and achieve fundraising goals related to corporate and individual giving, including the cultivation, solicitation, stewardship and recognition of existing donors and prospective donors; involve staff and board members as appropriate.
  • Build and maintain successful relationships with major donors, corporations and foundations. Serves as the senior point of contact with major donors.
  • Supervise a team that manages a donor information system that ensures accurate and timely recording of gifts and ensures the confidentiality and privacy of donors. Ensures that all donor reports and renewals are submitted to donors in a timely manner.
  • Oversee fundraising and community events as outlined in the fund development plan.
  • Oversee the grants writing team and review grant proposals and reports to foundation and government funders and ensure that grants are submitted in a professional and timely manner. Assist with the preparation of budget requests to counties and municipalities as requested.
  • Oversee the management of all grant contracts to ensure all reporting requirements are met on a timely basis. Proactively monitors the progress of grant performance and serves as strategic consultant to program directors and managers on programmatic goals, objectives, outcome measurements, and budget design.
  • Supervise and support prioritization, research, preparation and submission of grant proposals, contract applications, and grants calendar.
  • Work in partnership with other department staff to integrate communications, development and marketing strategies and activities that support fund development objectives.
  • Keep current on policies, legislation, rules and regulations involving grants and fund-raising activities and monitor current and developing trends in philanthropy; regularly communicate to staff and board as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to design and execute campaigns and events in line with Jefferson Center’s brand.

    Salary Grade 18 - $94,100 to $116,700*

    Additional Salary Information*:

    • The salary range above is based on 1.0 FTE (full time equivalent) or 40 hours per week. Less than 40 hours/week will be prorated and adjusted to the appropriate FTE.*
