Teacher - Project Lead the Way

POSITION TITLE:              Teacher – Project Lead the Way (PLTW)

PURPOSE STATEMENT

A "Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Teacher" is a classroom instructor responsible for delivering STEM-focused curriculum using the PLTW program, which integrates science, technology, engineering, and math concepts through hands-on projects and activities, typically focusing on engineering design and problem-solving, to engage students in real-world applications across various grade levels; requiring a strong understanding of the PLTW curriculum, proficiency in technology integration, and a passion for fostering student creativity and critical thinking skills within a project-based learning environment. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Implementing the designated PLTW course(s) according to the program guidelines, including lesson plans, activities, and assessments. 
• Guiding students through hands-on projects, encouraging collaboration, and supporting them in applying theoretical knowledge to solve real-world challenges. 
• Utilizing technology tools like CAD software, robotics platforms, and digital design software to enhance learning experiences. 
• Adapting teaching strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students within the classroom. 
• Regularly evaluating student progress through formative and summative assessments, providing meaningful feedback to support student learning. 
• Working with other teachers to integrate STEM concepts across disciplines and support student learning. 
• Staying updated with the latest PLTW curriculum updates and participating in ongoing professional development opportunities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Participate in curriculum review and design.
• Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives.
• Diagnose and evaluates student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner.
• Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
• Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
• Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
• Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
• Refer students for alternative services as provided by the District (ESL, Reading, Special Reading).
• Effectively implement district initiatives.
• Effectively collaborate with department and grade level teachers.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:   

• Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
• Attend meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
• Serve on committees as assigned.
• Remain current on instructional practices in education.  (e.g. instructional technology)
