POSITION TITLE: Teacher – Project Lead the Way (PLTW)
FLSA: Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold proper state certification
REPORTS TO: Principal and/or other Supervisor
PURPOSE STATEMENT
A "Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Teacher" is a classroom instructor responsible for delivering STEM-focused curriculum using the PLTW program, which integrates science, technology, engineering, and math concepts through hands-on projects and activities, typically focusing on engineering design and problem-solving, to engage students in real-world applications across various grade levels; requiring a strong understanding of the PLTW curriculum, proficiency in technology integration, and a passion for fostering student creativity and critical thinking skills within a project-based learning environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implementing the designated PLTW course(s) according to the program guidelines, including lesson plans, activities, and assessments.
- Guiding students through hands-on projects, encouraging collaboration, and supporting them in applying theoretical knowledge to solve real-world challenges.
- Utilizing technology tools like CAD software, robotics platforms, and digital design software to enhance learning experiences.
- Adapting teaching strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students within the classroom.
- Regularly evaluating student progress through formative and summative assessments, providing meaningful feedback to support student learning.
- Working with other teachers to integrate STEM concepts across disciplines and support student learning.
- Staying updated with the latest PLTW curriculum updates and participating in ongoing professional development opportunities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Participate in curriculum review and design.
- Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives.
- Diagnose and evaluates student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner.
- Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
- Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
- Refer students for alternative services as provided by the District (ESL, Reading, Special Reading).
- Effectively implement district initiatives.
- Effectively collaborate with department and grade level teachers.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
- Attend meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
- Serve on committees as assigned.
- Remain current on instructional practices in education. (e.g. instructional technology)
