Job Title – Magnet School Program Director
Supervisor: Deputy Superintendent for Teaching and Learning
Job Goal:
To provide an educational environment designed to help students succeed academically in accordance with system philosophy, goals, and objectives.
To plan, develop, monitor, and implement an effective Magnet School Program for the designated grade level(s) and subject area(s) using the designated course of study, appropriate materials and resources, and best instructional practices.
To serve as a student advocate, role model, and professional resource for parents, the community, and the school system.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Valid Alabama certificate in Educational Leadership, administration, and/or supervision.
Minimum of five (5) years successful experience as a classroom teacher.
Minimum of two (2) years successful administrative experience (school or district level).
Experience in curriculum planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
Ability to plan and organize effectively.
Ability to plan and supervise the work of others.
Proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups, including, but not limited to, students, faculty, staff, parents, and community members.
Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member.
Ability to multitask, to work efficiently and effectively to meet deadlines, complete complex tasks, and to accurately prioritize tasks and projects.
Ability to use and facilitate the use of technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information.
Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule.
Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
Oversees the Magnet School Program budget and completes all procurement, purchasing, and fiscal reporting in adherence with the Board approved Local Finance Manual.
Collaborates with local magnet school administration regarding teacher scheduling and assignments.
Demonstrates knowledge of the prescribed curriculum, intervention strategies, school improvement plans, and participates in and/or leads professional growth and development activities for the purpose of improvement of the Magnet School Program.
Maintains an understanding of the current principles and practices of Magnet Schools.
Interprets and uses data (including, but not limited to standardized and other test results) for instructional planning and Magnet School Program evaluation.
Provides correspondence for college applications, work studies, internships, and related secondary, post-secondary, and career opportunities for students in a timely manner, as appropriate.
Provides effective leadership in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating the Magnet School Program.
Collaborates on the development and implementation of appropriate class and activity schedules to meet the needs of Magnet School Program students and faculty.
Collaborates with administrators and teachers to develop lesson plans that integrate the magnet theme into traditional academic instruction.
Develops and publishes calendars of events, reporting, submissions, and assessments as required for a successful Magnet School Program.
Coordinates effective professional development for Magnet School Program faculty and staff.
Holds regular meetings with administrators and specialists serving the Magnet School Program.
Coordinates student registration, student examinations, and student activities as required by the Magnet School Program, including service and support requirements.
Assists in the administration of the admissions lottery for the Magnet School Program.
Coordinates and supervises all needed communication and reporting between the school system and the Magnet School Program governing body, including potential colleges and/or universities as required.
Collaborates with the magnet school team on monitoring classroom instruction for the Magnet School Program.
Works with district accountability staff and external evaluators to ensure effective school data collection, submission, and analysis, including site visits.
Models appropriate and innovative use of technology for faculty, staff and students.
Oversees student recruitment for all Magnet School Programs.
Prepares reports, presentations, publications, or rosters as assigned.
Attends meetings, training, seminars, and workshops as required.
Attends and assists with supervision of magnet school activities, events, ceremonies, and conferences, as needed.
Responds to inquiries, requests, and concerns in a timely and positive manner.
Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law.
Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
Uses effective collaboration skills to work as a productive team member.
Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws.
Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).
Terms of Employment: As established by the Board and applicable state law.
Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
